Federal gun control is the only way to deal with this problem once and for all, if it's left to the states many will have no gun control for generations to come. There has to be a fundamental rethinking of the 2nd amendment and that has to be country wide not with 50 discussions all happening at different times and different speeds.
States rights and very important but for this issue Washington is going to have to do the hard work.

I think you need to read the U.S constitution buddy. "fundamental rethinking of the 2nd amendment" You mean a "fundamental rethinking of the entire U.S constitution" as you're now not only stripping or restricting individual rights, you're also stripping or restricting state rights. It doesn't work that way, it'll or set precedence for future federal governments and essentially mean state rights no longer exist.

No I read it thanks and I have heard it all before.
You can't amend the 2nd amendment because the whole of the US will fall apart and it's not a gun problem it's a people with mental health problems' problem.
What have I misunderstood, I will admit I have only just woken up.

Unfortunately, gun ownership is just too universal and ingrained in the US psyche for restrictions to have any impact. The more shootings there are, the more people will want guns to protect themselves.
The only way - and I mean this with a heavy heart - the only way to curb this violence is to treat the underlying motives behind 95% (hyperbole intended) of mass shootings - relating to mental health issues and flawed ideologies. The US really needs to tighten its grip, because for every one of the many stories we here about in the UK, how many others go unreported each day? Dozens is the answer.
When primary school children are taught how to duck behind a desk when an active shooter is at large, you know society is sick. They're not being taught how to protect themselves if there's an earthquake (like Japanese pupils, for instance); they're learning how to avoid getting shot to a bloody pulp by a weedy ****ing psychopath. What's with that?!!

I think that compaeison would be valid if the gun man shot himself as suger is a self inflicted diet, unless you count stores that stock products that have sugar in them like mayonaisse and colslaw.

We have many, many people in this country with mental health issues, sadly many end up taking their own lives, what they don't do is get a gun or three and take as many others with them as possible in schools, cinemas and shopping malls.

Quite right too, and doesn't that speak volumes about the gulf in attitudes and policies in the treatment of these people between here and the States? Obviously, the fact we have strict gun laws helps, but my point is that even though we would ideally get rid of firearms from the general population in America, no one will be able to.
