its only because at present those two teams have identical stats , at the end of the season its unlikely that would be the case on the last day.

Well I was at Withdean on Saturday, but it was perfect Tuesday night, has worked buffer free since 2.59 today, and generally serves me well.

Only as a tie breaker.
Its because those two teams are equal on points, goal difference and goals scored so there's no way to separate them. If the season were to end now they would have to play off in order to determine which team gets relegated.

But one of teams "going down" had to play one the teams "coming up", to take "their place".
It's a rubbish idea in retrospect. The leagues are so tight at the bottom, relegation isn't usually decided until the last couple of games anyway. anyway.
