Don't worry, Americans being beaten at the one sport they consider themselves to be utterly invincible at deserves at least two threads

FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
Brilliant it was, they were totally hacked off.
Even when there was 4 mins to go and they were 12 points down they thought they were going to win !

What team did the US have out?

Mixture of a couple of NBA players (Iverson played) and some college kids. A lot of players declined their call ups this time round, it's a long way from the Dream Team that's for sure.

I think it'd be the other way round these days seeing as the US are usually higher than England in the FIFA world rankings.

Only partly true - every player is still an NBA player; though as you rightly say many of the superstars such as Tracy McGrady, Shaq etc. didn't want to go for 'security reasons'

The squad is:

4. Allen Iverson (Philadelphia 76ers, guard)
5. Stephon Marbury (New York Knicks, guard)
6. Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat, guard)
7. Carlos Boozer (Utah Jazz, forward)
8. Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets, forward)
9. LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers, guard)
10. Emeka Okafor (Charlotte Bobcats, centre)
11. Shawn Marion (Phoenix Suns, forward)
12. Amare Stoudemire (Phoenix Suns, forward)
13. Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs, forward)
14. Lamar Odom (Los Angeles Lakers, forward)
15. Richard Jefferson (New Jersey Nets, forward)

Carlos Boozer recently signed a contract worth $50m, LeBron James' shoe deal alone is worth $100m. And they still couldn't beat Puerto Rico:D

Aside from not really playing as a team, I think the USA's main problem is that they don't really have any great shooters in their team; most of the players are either low post scorers or drive to the basket to get points, there's no-one who can consistently hit jumpshots

No, they're not. Last month they were one place above us; this month they are three places below us. Prior to last month, I don't think they had been above us for a long time - and if they had, it would have been due to a series of freak results and for one month only.

The reason why I found the basketball score so thoroughly entertaining is that I find the defeat of any team that thinks it just has to turn up to win to be thoroughly entertaining. Like Bristol City, for instance.

Looks like the Yanks will have to invent a new sport so that they can claim they are world champions again!:lolol:
