‘I’LL STOP FOOTBALL IF THERE ARE ANY MORE PROTESTS
THE owner of Wrexham FC has sensationally threatened to shut The Racecourse if fans continue with their protests over a possible move.
Under-fire Alex Hamilton threatened all football matches at the ground would be stopped if supporters carried on voicing their disapproval of development plans aimed at getting the club out of debt.
But the latest outburst from the property developer has led fans to brandish him a bully – resorting to any means necessary to gag them.
This morning, supporters said they had been stunned by Mr Hamilton’s startling ultimatum after an alleged incident involving Bill Wingrove and an irate supporter.
The fan in question angrily spoke to the club’s former secretary and director after the friendly against Liverpool, shortly after he had announced he was leaving Wrexham FC to go Shrewsbury Town.
Days earlier supporters had also cast doubt on claims made by the club that irate fans had tried to contact Mr Hamilton while he was recovering in hospital from an operation on his neck.
Mr Hamilton also challenged supporters to come to tonight’s fans meeting at the Miners’ Institute, but has since decided not to attend due to security reasons.
Speaking to the Leader the property developer said that any further protests taking place on club premises would result in football at The Racecourse coming to an end.
He said: “No more demonstrations will be allowed on this club’s premises, and this type of thing will not happen again on my ground.
“If there are any further demonstrations on this club’s premises I will not allow any more football to take place on this ground.”
Over the weekend Mr Hamilton also reportedly left a recorded message to the Supporters Trust allegedly telling them to bring their “lowlifes” to tonight’s meeting to meet with him.
Fans have been infuriated by the actions of the unpopular owner, and refuse to be gagged in their efforts to save the ground.
Wrexham Supporters Trust member Lindsay Jones said: “This is just the act of a bully. It’s in keeping with the way they have approached things.
“The fans are not happy at all and this is not the way to go about things, it’s just blackmail.
“They are running scared at the moment and actually blaming the fans now for bringing the club down.
“He’s wrong if he thinks this threat will stop the fans protesting. I just can’t believe he has said this.”
Fears the club might be preparing to move were heightened by the announcement of several potential sites for a new ground.
Mr Hamilton is believed to be considering sites, including Bryn Estyn Lane; farmland opposite Wrexham’s training ground at Stansty Park, which is used by Cymru Alliance side Lex XI; opposite Llan-y-Pwll link road; Brymbo Steelworks; Bersham; and the former Lego site, among others
