I am certain that it is still in the regulations and have sent an e mail to the Football League asking for clarification when I receive a reply, if I do, I will post it irrespective of who is right or wrong.

I am fairly sure that the payment for position in the league only applies to the Prem but I may be wrong.

You could make an argumant for saying that EVERY game has a bearing on promotion or relegation.

Say we were 12th and played the team in 11th. We win 6-0. The other team are completely demoralised by this and the following week, when they play the team in third, they again capitulate, losing 5-0, thereby taking that team into the promotion places and improving their goal difference.

Come on BG - what did The FL say?

Yes - we have no leader in the team... unless George O'C stays...

:bigwave:No, retrograde step for Danny and BHA.

Still a legend though. Saw him in Lewes with his family a few months back and was in awe. I loved the way he always stopped behind at the end of the game and punched the air when we won. Is it me or did we always seem to win at Withdean when DC played? Was on his table at the end of season dinner when he won player of the seaason (first Championship). Top bloke, insisted on buying the whole table a drink and it was my pleasure to buy him one back.

But no way back for him at Brighton. Hope he gets sorted somewhere.:bigwave:

E mail received from FL

Dear Mr
We are in receipt of your email and would advise that regulation are
contained in The League's Handbook which is available to purchase from
this office. A publications proforms is attached which you should
complete and return to The Football League Operations Centre, Edward VII
Quay, Navigation Way, Preston PR2 2YF, together with the appropriate
remittance.

<<Publications Order Form 2007-2008.doc>>
We can however advise that after 5.00pm on the fourth Thursday in March
in each Season any Players registered with a Club will not be eligible
to play in any match organised by The League. Exceptions can be made
for goalkeepers. This regulation was changed in 1988 from the original, which I am advised allowed players to play in the matches that you mentioned

Thank you for contacting The Football League.

It would appear that I am slightly behind the times on my ascertion that players could sign but not play although the lady does not mention whether or not a player can sign all she says is that they cannot play in any games.

So if I am wrong I apologise to all.
