I am sure that we earmarked strikers ourselves. It is much easier for a club like Sheff Wed.

1) Higher turnover, higher chance of being able to afford the wages.

2) Better facilities.

3) Well placed in the country, rather than being down of the south coast, which limits the players we could get in.

I would agree with point 1 as that cannot be disputed.

I am not convinced that point 2 is true. Do players really worry about such thuings is it not mainly about money for wages etc.

Point 3 is debatable as the South Coast is a nice place to live and ifa player was nearing the end of his career and could move south
to finish off must be worth a consideration.

My whole point is Sheff Wed had players lined up waiting to sign when the window opened we didnt we were still chasing every Tom Dick and Harry.

As usual you are being too simplistic.

It was obvious to EVERYBODY that we needed a striker way back in September but it appears that all we did was chase after one and unfortunately neither you nor I know how realistic our approaches or offers were.

Sheff Wed earmarked strikers and then the moment the transfer window opened jumped in and got them ON LOAN not bought them what did we do wait until mid March to do exactly the same.

By which time it was too little too late although it was possible to have worked it it hadn 't been for a gutless performance by the team against Southampton.

spot on for answering your own negative anti Knight post. You dont know how well Knight backed his manager - but you still jump to the conclusion that it was his fault.

I agree it was obvious to everybody. repeatedly McGhee said he had the money to spend. Whether that be on wages, on loan or as a signing.

If Knight was so tight fisted with money, why allow McGhee to spend the signing fee and wages on GNW when it was too late?

Being a 'the glass is half empty person' I believe that having gone on the radio and said that there was money available for a loan signing DK had no option but to bring in somebody on loan although he knew it was too little too late to make much difference.

Consideration must be given to the fact that when the money was wanted for a signing last September DK was saying that there was no money available. Unfortunately none of us will ever know how serious the offers were.

I offered £5k for the lease of a pub last week that the owner wanted £65k and another wanted £60k and a third wanted £50k but I am trying to buy one!!!

Higher cost of living would have an effect, plus a lot of players will be wanting to 'stay local' if possible. Football is football, I am sure they are not too fussy about becoming an Albion hero, if they can get a game elsewhere closer to home.

he could have done more to get the best out of the players we have and we had a striker who he set up to fail by not giving him a chance, what her really means is he is not prepared to get the best out of his players and only wants yes men in the team, great manager, useless scotthish twat!

Tudgay was at Derby. Derby is 30 miles away from Sheffield. He can live in the same house and be at training within 25 minutes up the motorway.
Location is a problem.

One example hardly proves that point. In any case, even if true, it would work both ways; London-based players would presumably prefer to move to us than head oop north.

I'm afraid that smacks of a bit of a desperation argument.

Whatever but it is true even so.

True, but I was referring to our Northern targets.

Fair enough, it was just the "location is a problem" line I was taking issue with - that isn't really true for us more than anyone else. If you're a Carlisle fan, perhaps you'd have a point ...
