Would the septics ever elect Arnie as president?

It might sound ridiculous, but I'm not so sure. I can't think of many other countries - with an even vaguely democratic electoral system - who are capable of voting in a numbskull such as Dubya.

Been listening to quite a bit of the Republican Convention coverage, and he seems really popular. Frightening.

That is true - at the moment. But there have been discussions about amending that (presumably in the constitution) in the future.

But assuming that could change at some point, it's more whether he could win.

Orrin Hatch has already introduced a new law into Congress seeking a constitutional amendment allowing American citizens of foreign birth to be able to run for the presidency.

Even with this going through it will still need to win a 2/3rd majority in both the Senate and House of Representatives and 3/4 majority across the State legislatures.

If he ran he would win. The only democrat with a shot of beating him would be Hilary Clinton.

Actually, Arnie has been surprisingly affective as Governor of California. And despite his recent appearance at the Republican bash, he actually dislikes Bush. Arnie is pro-gay rights & pro-Koyoto.

Don't be fooled by his film-star background & funny voice. He would be a far better choice than Bush.

Let's be honest anyway, being President is an acting job anyway. Bush relies on his advisors and is just the puppet

You have to realise that it's a room full of bush-fans cheering everything everyone says about the tosser, and waving signs. You HAVE to expect them to cheer for their leader, no matter how thick they seem.
When the blind lead the blind - the blind also follow blindly.

I sit at my local cafe of a morning with a load or Republicans who berate and belittle anything that's not their party. They'll say hypocritical stuff like "France will sell weapons to ANYBODY!" to which I exclaimed "like the US would'nt!" (recalling Iran Contra, where they sold weapons to an Iraq that was also killing Kurds and their neighbors Iran, as well as selling to Iran to fuel the war and keep the coffers filling!!)

Ferchrissakes, 'W' is an immature untravelled twat criticizing a decorated war veteran who fought in a terrible travesty of a conflict, for America, while he whitewashed his 'career' and got shuffled away from the draft. Now he's led his country into another war, with young men dying in Iraq - and he has the temarity to take a pot at Kerry's medals !!
He's completely unaware and unashamed about World affairs, has drained the economy and pushed the future into unbelievable debt (if today's young even bother to try buying any property it is way beyond the means of anyone not on $$$big salaries, and they'll be owned/enslaved by the banks for their whole lives)

Think about it, this regime has NO compunctions about how they bring America and the rest of the World down to their collective knees as long as the wealthy-few prosper big-style.
On paper, Bush's party cannot POSSIBLY get back in - they have not gained ANY supporters (that they didn't already have) since the 'close', recount-worthy last election. They have aroused millions who want to vote against them, and alienated many others across the board. They would HAVE to fix the next election to have any chance of staying in - but don't think they won't try.
If GWB gets in again, I fear for our futures.

Spot on mate. I find it hard to believe that out of 250 million people the best they can find is Bush, Gore and now Kerry (who is hardly brilliant btw). Just watch the number of black voters unable to vote in the upcoming election. Democracy my arse

Bush and his entire government are criminals! More so than your average politicians i mean.

That's a bit harsh IMO - not the Bush part. I would normally trust a politician far more than a journalist who simply lie & aren't accountable. Journo's print lie after lie & no one questions it
