Hmmm...

Perversely, I quite enjoyed the 5-1 thrashing by Stoke in the end.

Notable mentions

Millwall, when we conceded a 1-0 lead within 5 minutes of the restart and we were then hit by a sleet storm.
Losing to Mansfield Town 3-2 in the FA Cup.
Losing 3-2 to Port Vale (how it wasn't 7 or 8 is beyond me), which effectively ended our promotion hopes.
Losing to Palace in the last minute... :nono:
Losing 4-1 to Crewe, although my mood was tempered with a STINKING hangover from the jaunt to Lords to see the real heroes of Sussex.

Remember that Port Vale game well, we were in a good run of form leading up to that match too, but they hit the woodwork about 4 times I remember, we were terrible. But the worst one for me was the 5-1 defeat at home to Stoke, easily the worst performance I have seen, shocking that day.

That Milwall loss was terrible as it really was the writing on the wall for relegation.

Rochdale we lost 4-2 I think on a tuesday night, that was the coldest and wettest I've ever got down there.

Losing 3-0 at home to Blackpool in front of the sky cameras, because of the performance and because some bloke moaned at me in the family stand for trying to support the team..

on a snowman plough
Rochdale on that december friday night

or some f*** awful evening game when we had a freekick by the south touchline in their half and seeing a huge mushroom cloud of steam coming from a critical mass of 22 players standing just inside the D.realised then that Magee had no f***ing idea and we were doomed.

Beating top of the league Millwall 3-1. I got so soaked it wa very hard to enjoy the experience being freezing cold too. I remember just thinking how sweet it'll be when we have a roof and how cold, wet and windy conditions pretty much makes the Withdean experience non-enjoyable regardless of the score.

Plymouth, very early on so probably 2000, think it was an evening game Cup replay.

We went 1-0 down early, and then huffed and puffed for 70 minutes before finally getting an equaliser, Aspinall scored I think. Plymouth kicked off, came down our end and scored instantly. I was properly pissed off.

Having to come from behind against orient after totally dominating them all the first half.
I was standing with Dean Wilkins for some of that game, and neither of us could believe the number of misses that kept them in it at 0-0.

Worse was probably the 1-5 v Stoke though, and getting told afterwards that the result didn't matter. We already knew that, before buying the ticket thanks Magoo.

The Port Vale was bad but there was some cracking goals to "enjoy" at least. The worst for me was Orient on boxing day last year, hungover with a mate who'd been made redudant, horrible weather the worst and most boring game of football i've ever seen

Rochdale 2000? Surely?

Yes. I was particularly lucky that my first Withdean game was the Plymouth Cup game described above, and my second was the 4-3 defeat to Rochdale in the rain( Scott Ramsey missed a one-on-one that would have made it 4-2 to us.) However that Rochdale game was also Cullip's debut, so a progression to champions the following season can clearly be seen.
