West Midlands is bad but Cockney is vile, mainly because there's complete wanker using it.

My favourite ? Oh yes, deep southern USA, now who do I know who has one of those ?

You should differentiate between north and south Welsh - they're totally different. North Welsh has to be one of my favourite accents of them all.

My sister's accent!!

Since moving 'oop narth she has developed a Sussex/Manchester cross accent, sounds terrible!!!

:lolol:
Thats another thing that irritates me. How can you "pick up" an accent from anywhere ? You talk how you talk, simple as. Perhaps a young childs accent would change if they are subjected to prolongued exposure to a strong regional dialect. But a fully grown adult who has been talking in their own accent for YEARS ? I don't buy it.

I'm 32. If I moved oop north for 10 years, I can guarantee I'd sound exactly the same as I do now. If I moved to the USA, I wouldn't start talking like Larry Hagman after a few years for christs sake. Why do some people feel the need to alter the way they talk ?

*shakes head in bewilderment*

As an Aussie, I guess the half you do understand would be those that speak Parkhurst, Dartmoor, Holloway, etc.

Oh the humour - I'm falling of my chair and pissing my pants at the same time.....

It isn't so much the prounounciation of words but the expressions that you pick up.
Unfortunately I have lived longer in Yorkshire than I did in Sussex (I was 22 when I left) but my husband can tell when I have been back in Sussex for a couple of days as my speech alters (shut it Tom Hark)

I am hoping the Yorkshire'isms will disapppear once I've been back a couple of years.
