"Dermot Sugrue, winemaker at Nyetimber vineyard..."

If there's not a touch of the "hon he hon" about that name, then my name's Graf Dietrich von Schlesinghausen. Good to see they're leaving it to the experts. :)

Seriously, I've heard this stuff is lovely and would like to try it but isn't it ferociously expensive?

Dermot Sugrue sounds like an Irish name to me.

It is expensive, but no more than champagne, great for a one-off.

Besides, if you spent a bit more working and a bit less fantasising about deaf bints and their dogs you might be able to afford it more often.:)

I am always proud to offer our wine to our Continental friends. I use to do euro work with the French, Italians etc and they were surprised how good our wine was, but it still didn't change their snobbyness.

The expense of the wine = the biggest issue.

Didn't we have a chat about this this time last year?

Slightly different: that was about Ridgeview, this is about Nyetimber. :lolol:

God, we've got some good sparkling wine in Sussex.

Newbury, Berkshire.
In Newbury we have an occasional farmers market attended by Fonthill Glebe ( Test Valley Vineyards ) of Wiltshire ( although the grapes are grown in Hampshire too ).

They make a splended medium dry, or dry sparkling wine based on Seyval Blanc grapes, which I have bought several times. £ 12 a bottle is very reasonable indeed when compared to a bottle of champagne. It does contain sulphites which means the fermentation has been ' assisted ', but it tastes excellent.

It's not listed on their website, but here's the link anyway:

Er, I said on my original thread "I've heard good things about sparkling white from Nyetimber, and might get some for the house."

Indeed, I was the first person to mention Nyetimber on that thread. but most of the thread was taken up by a discussion on Ridgeway (via a diversion on Italian wine, decimalisation and fascism).

Way out west
Nice to hear that West Chilt produces some of the best wine in the World, good on em, at last the French will have to acknowledge that it might not be Champagne (coz it ain't made there) but it is a top class bubbly.

Exiled from the South Country
I'm coming down to Sussex for one of my twice yearly visits this summer.

My parents are having their 50th wedding anniversary 'do' at Silletts restaurant in Selmeston [stay with me comrades, this does get relevant to this thread in a minute; honest!].

Any way the menu for Sillets sa this:-

"Silletts Recommended English Wine Denbies Surrey Gold: - this delicious fragrant off-dry white wine is rich in blah, blah, blah, wank, toss, zzzz."

Surrey? SURREY? SURREY? f*** me; here they are in the most glorious wine producing part of England and the recommended wine is from SURREY????
Vent your spleen at them at enquiries@sillettscottage-restaurant.co.uk
