as many on here still whine about england's exit, i find it laughable how simple some of the excuses are.

- sven's fault
- ronaldo's fault
- fifa's fault
- sepp blatter's fault
- scolari's fault
- everybody but us cheating

i ask myself, did i watch a different england team? the one i saw was very very average, full of big names, self proclaimed favourites for the world cup and media-hyped superstars.

england has many chiefs in their ranks but no indians... and now, its time to blame everything and everybody for their OWN failure.

every opposition player was cheating, all the ref's were bought by the other team, the whole world is yealous, of what england got...

yea right...

where is your fighting spirit? where is the mentality that made english football famous and recognised by us "europeans"?

instead of whining and squeeling like pre-schoolers ("he took my shovel away...he is naughty") face it, you didnt play good football, you didnt deserve to win it!

this is not a posting to rub salt in your wounds, if you'd played good football and had a bad call against you in the last minute (like australia), i and every other non-englishmen would have sympathy with you. but that wasnt the case, as england played much better with 10 men, and performed and battled like you'd expect an england team to do.

with a selection of good players like england got, you should be amongst the top 4. how comes england had great moments under sven like your recent match vs argentina in switzerland or the 5:1 against us? is it all sven's fault? no, i think (from a neutral) he's got a share blame, as much as the players who werent performing.

but the worst your country got is your gutter press. dont believe everything they print or the crap you hear on TV.

there was this man hargreaves, that everybody hated cos the papers blamed him for verything. now, he showed the spirit, he battled through and won you over. i am very pleased for him, he was england's player of the tournament for me.

now coming to cheatin:

i hate diving and that shit too, no question. i also think it ruins the game. but not every stumble or loosing the ballance is a dive. i agree some players were taking the piss this year, and fifa should punish them severely. but isnt pulling your opponents hair, a foul to gain advantage, and then scoring a goal the same? it is also unsportsmanlike, same goes for headbutting your opponent on the chest or stamping into somebody's testicles.

cheating is serious and should be outlawed, but right now it is used as an excuse for own bad performances.

some here said it was the worst world cup ever. look at it with a neutral perspective, was it that bad? no.

would it been so bad if england won that penalty shootout? no.

would it been so bad if england would have made their way through and won the cup? no, it would have been the best ever tournament...eh?

i dont think this years tournament has been the greatest ever, but certainly not the worst. i think it has been organised pretty good, the atmosphere was amazing, some games were good, some bad (as always).

as a resumee, i loved it, cos i love football. and i dont care if germany's playing or england, italy, T&T...

my homecountry didnt make it into the final, but i am still very happy about the 3rd spot, and especially how the german team performed. of course i could use the excuse that frings wasnt playing, italy cheated...bla-bla-bla... whatever...

its over and done, and in 2 years time we got the european championships, in 4 years the next world cup.

and i am looking forward to it.

in the meantime, see you at brighton, cardiff or wherever...

prob playing some pool again at preston park...

all the best have a great summer and a great season. i expect BHA to go up again, so dont let me down....

We're England, we blame anyone else but ourselves and believe before a major tournmaent that we are the favourites to win.

If you can find me an England fan saying that we played good football and deserved to win "it" (presumably meaning the whole tournament) I'll eat my hat. We did not play well. On balance we were probbaly just about the better side vs Portugal but we didn't score, and we can't take penalties.

People are blaming Sven, rightly, for the fact we played poorly when we are clearly capable of much better. That is all.

Um, only one of them is being touted seriously as the 'reason' - none others.

Point is, it was a combination of factors - ineptitude, arrogance, self-importance, injuries (though no more than any other), and lack of leadership - which guaranteed our faliure and ensured ennui. Whichever way you look at it, no-one has suggested that the reasons are any other than self-inflicted.

To suggest otherwise is fantasy and indicative of a 'create the concept, and write the story around it' type of gutter journalism, which appears to be a continuing trend in your posts lately.

More tough love from German Shepherd :lolol:

Agree with you that a lot of side issues have dominated the discussion of England's exit rather than a balanced appraisal of the manager's or the players' true ability. But it is a difficult discussion - how good is Sven, how good is Lampard - with no clearly obvious answers. Only time will give us clearer answers once we see how another manager handle these same players.

There probably is an interesting discussion about whether cheating/diving/unsportmanlike behaviour is on the increase in international football, but agreed there is too much "cheatin' foreigner" rhetoric around rather than looking a bit closer to home for examples.

Agree with you that it was a very good World Cup with a better standard of football than in recent previous ones.

Agree with you that the English tabloid press is the pits and alas some of its standards are creeping into other branches of the media (although there are plenty of rubbish papers in Germany and other countries too).

Good for you that you didn't make a big deal of the Frings incident, many other countries' fans would have.

Not surprising though that you are in a more upbeat mood than most England fans, Germany/Klinsmann overachieved whereas England underachieved (probably the majority view) or found their level (minority view) according to who you talk to. Because of that, it is perhaps inevitable (although unfair) that much of what you say will come across to England fans as crowing a bit

Thanks for your good wishes for our forthcoming season :drink:

Tough love? That's one way of putting it! I could say he's a total Anglophobe but yes he does make some valid points. Blaming Ronaldo for our exit is worse than blaming the weather.

Actually he missed a trick, if I was foreign and I wanted to sneer at England I'd say that England is a nation full of chokers and bottlers. A rabbit caught in car headlights looks like Rambo when compared to Lampard, Gerrard and Carragher. For all Eriksson's tactical incompetencies it wasn't him who tamely missed three out of four spot kicks. And as G.S. would point out the only one who scored was the German-trained Hargreaves.

yep , we were sh * t and didn't deserve to get to the last 4 overall. The players should take the criticism . Talking up chances , strutting round pre tournament like they were the chosen ones . . .simply not good enough.

Over it now !

On with the real football

Why are all the non England fans peddling the myth that we're making excuses? Everyone I've spoken to, and even the posts on here are saying that we didn't play well enough. On paper we WERE good enough to win it. Sven being shit is a valid excuse, all the rest of the excuses you've listed are what you wish we were saying, they are a figment of your imagination, so f*** off boxhead and start worrying why your country didn't win it either.
