Just as there was once a time when (some) baseball was played in the UK (The name of Derby's old ground is an echo) there used to be some cricket played over here. There's a Longwood Cricket Club just outside of Boston, but better known for tennis -- the Davis Cup started there in 1900.

Indeed. It is accepted that the first ever international cricket match took place between the USA and Canada in 1844 (the first England v Australia match wasn't until 1877). Then 'town ball' took over.
