Thanks Greens :(
I recently picked up a battered VHS of the event and was blown away to see Hendrix playing to about fifty people in a near deserted, debris strewn field on the Monday morning I think?

Quality film it has to be said

It's a great film - get it on DVD because there are some extra scenes on there.

Also, a DVD of the whole of Hendrix's set was released a couple of years ago, including footage shot by a random student, shot from the side of the stage. Brilliant.

Hendrix insisted on being the final performer and was scheduled to perform Sunday at midnight. He didn't take the stage until 9 A.M. on Monday morning, and played for 2 hours to a dwindling audience.

Cancelled Acts:

Jeff Beck Group (The band broke up in July, forcing cancellation)
Iron Butterfly (Stuck at the airport, their manager demanded helicopters and special arrangements just for them. Were wired back and told, as impolitely as Western Union would allow, "to get lost", but in other 'words'.)
Joni Mitchell (Joni's agent put her on "The Dick Cavett Show" instead)
Lighthouse (Feared that it would be a "bad scene".)
Ethan Brown (Arrested for LSD three days before the event.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Declined Invitations:

The Beatles (John Lennon said he couldn't get them together)
Led Zeppelin (Got a higher paying gig elsewhere)
Bob Dylan (Turned it down because of his disgust of the hippies hanging around his house)
The Byrds (Turned it down because of a melee during their performance at the first Atlanta International Pop Festival, held at the Atlanta International Raceway on July 4 and July 5, 1969)
Tommy James & the Shondells (Turned it down because of being misinformed about the size and scope of the event)
Jethro Tull (Turned it down because they thought it wouldn't be a big deal.)
The Moody Blues (Unknown reasons)
Mind Garage (Declined because they thought it wouldn't be a big deal and had a higher paying gig elsewhere)

No, I can't recall him playiing locally. (Newcastle way.)

I take it, he is he worth cheking out?

Kosh

Sorry, didn't know you weren't local down ere in the Sarf. He played weekly for many years in the Duke of Wellington Shoreham and other Sussex local places. Not sure what he's doing now. His son (also Miller) was a v.good drummer as was his daughter. Last I heard he was touring with whatever Deep Purple lineup was going around at the time.

I've seen Miller Anderson at The Stanley Arms in Portslade and at The Half Brick in Worthing. Nice fellow and talented player, he wrote and sang almost everything for The Keef Hartley Band, and it always makes me wonder why KH had his name on top billing?
Miller has a solo album which is good, and he'll sell you a CD of it at the gigs, since the Japanese issued it now.

I do, of course, hate to mention it (esp. with Hiney around), but I do indeed have the original Woodstock Festival programme, and the original theatre release programme

It's more than interesting reading the artist appearing list for Woodstock. I was at the John Fogerty concert in Cordoba last Saturday evening & before he sang 'Who'll Stop the Rain' pointedly stated "contrary to popular belief I was not at Woodstock for this event. I was at home and wrote the song about it." He spoke very little in his first ever [after 40 years!!] concert & visit to Spain other than to make this point & say his greetings in that amazing American drawl of his. He is appearing in Barcelona on Wednesday this week & if anyone is in the area beg, steal or buy a ticket, he gets better with age. As to the truth of Woodstock it could be when he fell out with his brother & so JF himself was not there.
