Kelly was excellent up front and a damn sight better than some of the strikers who\'ve played for us over the years.

Put her in the Albion team in this division though and in real terms she;d probably be no more effective than Gatting.

True there were some miskicks and poor crossing but it didn't ruin it for me. It was exicitng. The Japanese scored totally against the run of play then England pumulled them. It was good to watch. Yes not as technically as good as their male counterparts but still very entertaining. I'll watch their next game.

My point is that there is an agenda here, the whole 'women's football' thing has obviously got friends and backing in very high places.

Some sports - off the top of my head hockey, basketball, badminton, and I'm sure many more - would kill for the sort of backing the Beeb are giving this, and I'm not sure their claims on a purely sporting basis are any worse.

Perhaps one reason its received some backing is because it's the fastest growing sport in the UK. Huge growth of women's amateur leagues; big rise of female teams connected with male professional clubs and many schools now have girls teams. This rise in interest and particpation is way above that for Badmington or the other sports you mention. Many people on here seem to have a problem with it. Personally, I don't see what the big deal is about.

The keepers are shite because they are conscious of how big their arse looks in these shorts, and will their hair get messed up if they dive for a ball, and did they remember to wear a sports bra?, and they wonder if that's Brad Pitt over there in the third row, and why didn't that bastard with the Merc CALL after she let him ravage her after buying her one drink and she pretended to be drunk?

Fair enough. It could well be the fastest-growing sport, although that is a notoriously tricky indicator in any sport, as it can often mean very few were playing it to start with. Who knows, maybe we'll follow the American model and it will become the de rigeur sport for youngsters of both sexes.

Sometimes the one needs the other in terms of coverage and growth, they often go hand in hand - I just think that sport has had a lot of luck, and a lot of help, compared to others.
