Withdean 2000 have folded as a senior club just a year after winning the Combined Counties League.

The club will continue to operate as a youth set-up but their senior team has been withdrawn from the league.

After one season of sharing their Withdean Stadium home with Albion in 1999-2000, the club were forced to look elsewhere for somewhere to play home games.

They spent one season groundsharing at Horsham and two with Worthing but the financial burden of renting has hit them hard.

Although they have an agreement to return to Withdean Stadium for the start of next season, that was always unlikely to happen with Albion's proposed move to Falmer apparently no closer and the club have taken the decision that they can no longer continue to tread water at Worthing.

Always a shame to see ANY club call it a day! Lets hope they can reform when we finally move out of Withdean in our lovely new shiney stadium at Flamer.

Withdean 2000 were, of course, a team that was formed with the sole purpose of taking over the stadium when the Albion moved out.

They are no relation of the Withdean FC who used to play there.

Another? I fail to see how we've caused the death of a club that was formed, as Lord B says, to take over Withdean when we move out.

No, what caused the death of Withdean 2000 was the public enquiry and the delay by John Prescott.

Lord B is absolutely right (as usual ;) )

Withdean200 were a bit of a sham side in that a certain individual saw an opportunity and tried to muscle in.

Withdean (the original side) had folded and this individual felt that if he formed his own side and called it Withdean, he would be able to get the use of the stadium, and all of the Albion's improvements, when the Albion moved out.

Withdean (the original) cried foul, so this individual had to call his team Withdean2000 - with none of the original Withdean's players, staff or directors.

Last year this individual got tired of waiting for Albion to move out and withdrew his support from Withdean2000 and moved to another senior non-league club instead.

This weeks folding was inevitable thereafter.

Shed no tears for a sham side who tried to make dosh out of the Albion.

I'm sure that the start of Withdean's problem was when Pook got involved.

I just hope that he doesn't wreck Worthing as his next project.
