Bereft of fans for over a year after their traditional support abandoned them over the relocation, 5,639 turned up at Milton Keynes, including the visitors.
The kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes due to crowd congestion, and once the referee finally got play underway, the Dons made the worst possible start in their new home.

bhanuts - This ain't about the club(s), it's about the wider picture of football in this country. This is an appalling precedent, and you don't want to be fighting against the specific case of your own club when you could have been fighting the basic principle years ago when it was applied to a different club.

T.o.T you could well be onto something. I posted my previous contribution to this thread early Sunday morning before I'd seen the papers and when my only knowledge of the event was that the kick-off had been delayed due to crowd congestion. I had imagined thousands of ticketless fans swarming around outside trying to smash down the turnstiles with a concrete cow. Under 6000! There's hope for failure yet.

I feel extremely sorry for the fans and the footballers and staff who have put years of dedication into the club.
I hope they don't fold. It could have easily happened to us and I'm glad that there are a few supporters who have stuck by their club.

I'm sorry you've lost me there how could it have 'easily happened to us?' The only comparison is that we spent some time in exile. There was never any claim that Gillingham would be our new permanent home, and certainly no claim that we were now the official 'Gillingham' team that the locals should support.BrightonBird said:

Brovian, it didn't happen to us, but it could have due to the situation with Gillingham. It never was mentioned by the club, but Brighton just had better "man managing".
Yeah I'm sorry BB that's the bit I don't understand. Wimbledon were looking to relocate since the days of Sam Hamman. (Dublin was mentioned at one time) We NEVER wanted to relocate. The two sets of circumstances are totally different.

5000 or so is pathetic, considering this is supposed to be a town desperate for football and they have a ground which holds 9000 at present.
What pisses me off most, apart from that mullet haired twat Pete Winkelman, is that they said Wimbledon FC couldn't survive because they had gates of only 4000. There are dozens of clubs which survive on 4000, sometimes a lot less than that! You cut your cloth according to your means. Just because there aren't many fans, doesn't mean they don't care, or they don't have any rights.
