I have no truck with the worshipping and the praising of deities, whether they have long white beards, wear a turban or have loads of arms, so won't be giving baby jeebus a thought. I will, however, will use the occasion to be with family and have a great time, without credit card companies and banks making a penny out of me. I will, also, not disagree with anyone who has a different opinion to me, if it brings happiness into peoples lives, then it's a good thing.

I'd have thought that this was about the best post on a rather depressing thread.

A) Remembering a largely fictional story, used to control people for thousands of years, which hijacked another winter festival?

B) Using the time as an opportunity to spend some happy time with family and friends, giving and receiving gifts, and putting troubles aside?

I was brought up in a religious family and church was a major part of Christmas.

I am becoming more of an atheist these days. I claim to be agnostic, but there is increasingly little doubt on the matter.

However my partner is a devout catholic, and I will attend mass on Christmas Eve with her.
I have to say that I enjoy the religious Christmas rituals and they make Christmas special for me, despite my lack of faith.

I dare say this will annoy many of the believers.
I have never had a problem with the message of Christianity, just the need to believe in an after life and a higher plan, is too much for me.

Used to sing at many concerts at Christmas time, but these days it's just the Shoreham yatch club, which we help a few friends out...get a free drink and buffet...good fun.
