Missed off Dunk & Igor, one of our best defensive displays of the season away at NewcastleSo far this season, our defensive partnerships have been:
Dunk & JP
JP & Igor
JP & Webster
Webster & Igor
Baleba & Dunk
JP & Cashin
So I suspect our biggest issue is consistently having a settled partnership, and that's not including the madness at full back
I gather Bloom's invested £100million in a time machine and some genetic engineering, and we've bred an unholy combination of Harry Kane, Michael Owen and Alan Shearer to play up front for us next season.Posted this before I knew about Boscagli.
Can we also have a 30 goal a season proven striker please (well it's worth a try).
IMO, yes.Thanks. That’s what I was getting at. Do the stats show the tide turning on football styles or has this just been a poor division attacking wise?
That really was.Missed off Dunk & Igor, one of our best defensive displays of the season away at Newcastle
Oh no doubt we can do the low block thing when needed. I don't want that all season though, low block teams rarely finish top half. But what we need to sort out is how to defend a break against us when committing men forward. That really was.
Got everything spot on tactically.
Shape was perfect, we can do it…..
Yes, but you have to be able to react in transition, from memory our FBs were too high (again), which left us exposed. Pervis did well to get back and give him a gentle nudge.Oh no doubt we can do the low block thing when needed. I don't want that all season though, low block teams rarely finish top half. Tbh I think it just comes down to fewer loose mistakes in possession. Their best chances came in those events, for example when Gruda lost control on a break of our own, which led to Salah's shocking miss. Thats when we find ourselves out of shape.
The RDZ 22-23 team looked after the ball so well - Caicedo, MacAllister, Gross, Lallana, March
So Webbo down to 4th choice?I'll be disappointed if we don't sign one good quality 24-28 year old centre half to play alongside Van Hecke.
Plus a full back on either side. The amount of changes we have had to make defensively is mad and have cost us a lot. it was also glaringly obvious at the start of the season that we could be exposed here. I wouldn't get rid of Dunk but I'd like to see him be a very good third centre half option.

You do realise that this season we will have lost the least number of games since being in the Premier League? As it stands, just 9 defeats with one game to go. That stat alone blows your ’theory’ out of the water. It is true that on occasions we have looked flaky at the back when conceding late on from winning positions - Wolves (H) and Leicester (A) spring to mind. Counter that with the number of late goals (last 10 minutes) we’ve scored to win games - Man Utd, Liverpool, Fulham, West Ham as examples.Hurzeler just doesn’t seem to obsess over defence. High risk, we’ll outscore you, happy for everyone pushed up in a high line. Klopp/Slot very similar. When in possession.
Personally, I’m not keen with Albion players, a raft of coaches such as Moyes, Emery, Silva and Glasner who feel all their Xmas’s have come at once. I wish we were more circumspect. For example when Palarse visited Cantor/Aspinall commented on repeat that it could be any score to them first half. So naive.
If FH won’t budge, I feel we need DM/defenders with searing pace & great defensive games to reduce the cascade of GA.
Could have, but we got found out and opposition teams nullified our threat. That team would of finished top 4 this season without a doubt
Fixed that for youCouldhaveof, but we got found out and opposition teams nullified our threat.
Should have finished top 4 that season as well. The league was a lot weaker thenThat team would of finished top 4 this season without a doubt
But lots on here are suggesting that we are only top ten because this year’s Premier League is so weak……Should have finished top 4 that season as well. The league was a lot weaker then
Not for me.Should have finished top 4 that season as well. The league was a lot weaker then
I just want to win, whilst attacking football is enjoyable, results justify the means for me.We play adventurous possession football that’s good to watch…….but high risk.
We could play without the ball, defend deep and hit on the break……..but it would be dull and boring for the most part and horrid to watch.
Notably our possession percentage stats seem to have dropped off as the season has progressed……towards “a middle way”?
Personally I would rather watch good football than defensive shite.
