Will Buckley converted to a striker?

I think this could be a possibility like Thierry Henry. He's good enough, quick and clearly can put them away? We've also got a shed load of wide men now. If he can header a ball too, problem solved.

Injury prone though but that'll effect him as a wide man anyway.

Thoughts?

Seen it discussed quite a bit on here actually. The general consensus is that he's pretty good played up front with CMS on Fifa.. So I'd say that's good enough reason to give it a go!

As said in countless threads suggesting this before, him and CMS up top together would never work, as they have far too similar attributes.

Let the lad finish growing and the injuries will be less.................... THEN consider his eventual role. A couple of years in the future before it's a sensible option IMO

He's 6 foot. Has a better first touch than CMS. He's also 22 so could adapt to that target man roll. I wonder if they toy with this in training at all?

We'd lose his qualities from the wing, which we need more now Noone has gone. Lualua is our only other pacey winger, and the way we play, we need both options. With the signing of Dobbie, the form of CMS and the options of Barnes and Agdestein (and possibly Hoskins if we need to - Harley was told he could go and still makes the squad, so I imagine Gus would use Hoskins if needed, giving him the opportnity to change Gus's mind) we don't need to do it. It's not like Buckley has shown an inability to contribute from his wide position.

When we signed him I seem to remember Watford fans saying they tried him up front and he was pony, they said he was much better as a winger.

He was a striker at Watford and Rochdale, spoke to a Watford fan who can't believe we play him out wide

I'm not sure we do though.

We play Kaz as an out and out winger with his instinctive movement being to drive for the corner flag but in line with Gus's "something different" policy we do tend to play Buckley a little more as an inside forward with his runs being towards the inside edge of the penalty box - it may be subtle but it asks very different questions of defenders and I think that is why people think he could play deeper inside. The issue for me if we did would be whether his role would be more static and you might lose the advantage his pace can give you

His main asset is his ability to beat players and run into space. He'd have less of this to do, and would therefor be less effective, up front.

In my opinion, like.

I think he could play the second striker role, but we havve enough people already that can do that. What we need ( as an alternative in the squad), is the target man type of forward and i don't see him filling that kind of role.

As someone said, we'd lose his qualities and he'd be less effective.

We need a target man - someone who can play up top with their back to goal, win headers and score scrappy goals.
Buckley up front would be just another CMS/Dobbie/Vicente.
