Wilkins DOESN'T like Robinson?

Yes - I am reading between the lines here.

But i've seen bugger all from Wilkins that suggests he actually appreciates Robinsons talent. How many points would we have taken without Jake?

Yet all Wilkins can come up with is stuff like 'he needs to get his head down, and we'll work to try and extract some of his potential' and stuff. During Saturdays interview, i don't even think he was congratulating him!?

Now, I've heard on here that he's a crap trainer, I know he fell out with Dean White when he turned up for a reserves match a couple of years back. Does he have an unprofessional attitude? Maybe.

Or maybe I've got this wrong. Maybe Wilkins is trying to 'do a Fergie' and not put any pressure on the boy. To stop him (and us) getting carried away and going down the wrong path. It's a masterplan to make Jake into some sort of footballing genius.

I'm really not convinced though.

Wilkins:
"Jake is capable of scoring every game. We just need to keep working on him to make him more reliable in the middle third of the field.

"If he improves that side of his game and his ability to run with the ball he is going to be very difficult to stop."

Absolutely NO mention of how he's doing so well AT THE MOMENT.

"Jake is capable of scoring every game. We just need to keep working on him to make him more reliable in the middle third of the field.

"If he improves that side of his game and his ability to run with the ball he is going to be very difficult to stop."

Again, it's all about what Jake CAN DO. Nothing at all about what he's doing at the moment.

Now obviously, Wilkins isn't going to bad mouth Robinson, but he's not really giving any praise for a bloke who's scored 5 in 3 i don't feel. I can only hope it's just an example of Wilkins trying to keep his feet on the ground. I haven't got any quotes from the previous couple of games Jake's scored in, but i'm fairly sure there wasn't any obvious praise of him there, either.

I disagree with that, I reckon Wilkins just doesn't want Jake getting to big for his boots.

Fair do's.

I just think it a bit odd that Wilkins virtually ignores the fact that Robinson won us the game yesterday.???

To be honest, I think it's all fair comment.

Jake has huge potential, and hopefully the hatrick (which I've added to his wikipedia entry) will give him the confidence to go on and do even better, but, and it's a big but, he can be f***ing frustrating to watch sometimes.

I think Deano has summed it up pretty well, Jake has a lot of talent, huge potential and if we can tap into it a bit more we'll have a new star striker on our hands.

Fork me

As good as he was along with Cox, Huddersfield had a big hand in us walking it aswell.

Also if Wilkins knows Jake he should jopefully see how to motivate him- at work i have people if you tell them they have done something great they tend to sit on their laurels after that, just a case of Wilkins knowing Jakes character. I'm sure in the dressing room he was praised though.

Probably - just me being a sceptic i guess.

Although my argument is pretty flawed, in the sense that Robinson has recieved little praise after Boston and Northampton games, and gone on to score in the following matches!

So maybe 'a good example of man management' would be a better thread title.

Mark, your VENDETTA against Deano knows no end:nono:

Well, I'm trying not to get too carried away by one away win, something I've done many times before. As i've told you before, I actually think our squad is fairly decent for this league, so what do i know!? I'm still pretty chuffed though, and i'll support the bloke as long as he's manager.

But I don't like the way he's speaking about Jake.:)

Has Deano really praised any player?

Think he was quite appreciative of Cox at Millwall, but I might be wrong.

Don't worry it will come crashing back to earth at Valley parade.

I'm not carried away by it either, but you should be more appreciative of what Big Deano is doing with our team of turd. As far as I'm concerned, although it's only one win, a 3 goal defeat of Huddersfield is practically MIRACLE WORKING!

But surely the man who scored ALL THREE goals deserves some of the credit, that's what I am saying.

Yes, Wilkins should take some of the credit, but surely Robinson deserves some as well?

Well why stop at Jake Robinson?
Tell me, did Wilkins rabbit on in praise of any one player? He could easily pick out certain squad members for praise, but while he's trying to get a team to work well together I imagine a shining review of only ONE might just seem a bit like a slight of the many others deserving of praise.

I'm sorry, but I know it's very nice that there are players who's job it is to pass the ball into a big square space, let's just remember who puts them into positions to do that, and who stops the oppositions from cancelling those stats out altogether.

There's no lead singer, without a band playing the tunes ???

Obviously, what Wilkins says to the press differs to what he says to the media.

But, as you say, he's praised nobody. All he talks about is what he wants to do, and what he can do to us in the future. Now that's fair enough, and I suppose it's what he's used to having had a youth team coach role (where the future IS everything), but he doesn't seem to talk about the near future (i.e this season, month or week) very often at all.

He'll talk about 'individual mistakes' (although doesn't name the players), but he doesn't seem to talk at all about 'individual performances'. I guess that's the way he does things, and I'll have to get used to it, but it suprises me that in a team with seemingly fragile morale gets little in the way of public praise.

"Some of them are (kids) but they are starting to play like men."

The ONLY bit of praise in his post match comments, after the highest away win in FOUR years.

Well, they have only just secured a couple of away wins and a few more points, after several losses. The season isn't about one or two good or even great performances - and I'll be quite happy if he dishes out praise at the end of the season, if that's even his intention.

I think praise is something WE do, isn't it? And let's not separate DW from the team so much, he may be as deserving of praise as Robinson, Cox, Hinshelwood. For my money, the fact that Adam El-Abd and Kerry Mayo are playing so well is as worthy of notice.
They are showing they are well up for it too.

"the kids are playing like men" is about as great as praise gets, isn't it?

What else are you looking for from DW, because I think you are in danger of missing the point just cos you don't hear the basic "Jake was brilliant" talk, which sounds fairly amateur anyway just because he did his job of ending moves that the whole team are involved in. I'm sure they all slap each other's backs and talk about the game at some point anyway.

Not sure what you're moaning about - Robinson's getting plenty of praise from the fans; what's wrong with the manager keeping him in check with a sense of reality, especially if he's the kind of player who'll let it go to his head and stop working in training?

I'm struggling to see what Wilkins is supposed to have done wrong.
