before i log on to windows xp under my user it says you have so many unread messeges, i persume its something to do with windows messenger.
How do i get rid of this?

dis-associate your MSN messanger from Windows. Not sure if you CAN as Microsoft love being able to try as much data as possible

Complain to who? They don't have any free technical support of any kind for stuff like that.

I think you can switch it off, but not direct within XP - the easiest way to do it is to download Tweak UI.exe from MS Powertoys for XP here:

Run Tweak UI, go to Logon>Unread mail & untick the box - that should do it.

I saw a sexy iBook in PC World today. Intel chips and everything.
Why are they so expensive, this Dell struggles to start up properly if I shut it down which is why I never turn it off.

best advice is to wait a couple more months for the replacement iBook "MacBook" which will have an Intel chip and will also be able to run Windows XP as well as the fantastic Mac OSX...

also DO NOT BUY it from PC World, in my experience the staff don't have a clue about Macs, in fact in the Crawley store round the corner from my office they are usually switched off or set to sleep after 5 minutes...
best bet is to buy online at Apple.com/uk or go to an Apple store (Regents Street/Bluewater) or alternatively Cancom in Brighton, then you actually get to speak to someone who knows what they are talking about and can explain/demonstrate why they are better!!!

Apple Store staff know more about them than PC World staff... to a point. They've gone on a training course but that means nothing.
Took the monkey in the one in Dublin (franchised from Apple, not a direct owned one, and has now gone bankrupt
- but still an "Apple Store") to make a phone call on the "ominous looking red telephone" before he'd admit that they could actually sell me OS 8.6, and then a call to his manager, at home, to find out where the box was. In a small, small shop.
He then told me it'd work on my iBook as well as the machine I was buying if for (a 1997 PowerMacintosh 5400) with "no problems" and should be "faster than Panther". OS X 10.2 shouldn't even work on this machine, so getting a 1998-era one for an entirely different generation of kit going would be close to impossible.....
If an independent has set themselves up as selling Apple stuff and no other computer stuff it generally suggest that someone in the company knows what they're doing and the staff are likely to be better trained.

Oh, and if you think Apple's Intel hardware is any better than generic Intel hardware, can I borrow the crack pipe for a moment?
Basic MacBook is going to be made by ASUS and will be as poorly built as any other ASUS, can't remember the other outsourcers, but basically - its commodity hardware. Absolutely nothing makes it 'better' than the same kit bought with a different badge on it. Apple have already had FOUR 'silent revisions' to the MacBook Pro to fix hardware fuckups.
