Yes there is. I've had so called 'good tequila' and it still tastes like paint stripper.

The 'fun' element of a group of people doing tequila slammers is the only reason why this evil stuff gets sold.

That's just not true. What tequila did you drink and where? There are so many varieties that vary greatly in taste.

No idea what it was, but the round was bought by a friend in a bar in New York. She claimed it was good tequila and it cost her $7-50 a shot.

because of these pills I am on, I can only drink two/three units a day, so I have to be really careful what I drink. On a cruise around teh carribean last year, they supplied us with "rum punch" on this catamaran...well, I thought I had tasted some pretty strong alcohol in my time, but this stuff was just like drinking aeroplane fuel. It was served from a plastic container and Christ knows what the "punch" was, but all i could taste was neat alcohol.

I had one tumbler full and maybe it was because I dont drink much, but I went to stand up and couldn't feel my legs!

the mrs was not impressed as she had warned me that it looked lethal.

Can't comment on the shot you had but truly, decent tequila doesn't taste like paint stripper. It can be sipped not necked. If you ever find yourself in Mexico, go to a tequila bar. You'll be amazed by the choice and range of tastes.
