Why such a short contract

I may have missed this somewhere, but why has Poyet only signed until the end of the season.

If Bloom feels Poyet is the future I am surprised he has not got him to sign for longer, or is it that Poyet did not want to commit beyond next summer?

Either way we could be back to square one come May.

I think that was incorrectly reported by the BBC and it is in fact up until the end of next season.
