I agree with the article by Anna Swallow in the Sports Argus.

I think the longer he takes the more likely the decision is to be positive.

I get the impression he takes the time to look into all aspects of these inquiries and doesn't just rubber stamp the civil servant's recommendations.

That's one view Yorkie and needless to say I hope you're right. However the negative part of me says he's waiting until the end of the season when he thinks he can slip a 'no' in and get away with it as all the fuss will have died down (flowers, valentines, NFD etc) and there will be no matches for us to use as rallying points.

Having been married to a planning officer (now ex!) one reason for the delay could be of our own making!!!
With all the lobbying we have done over the past two weeks, Prescott now has to consider all the letters, petitions, cards etc and that in itself will cause a time delay ....
all a bit of a Catch 22

I don't believe for a second that the delay is because Prescott is wading through all our flowers and letters. More likely to be strategic, like Brovian says. Can he really drag this out till May ?

It's all speculation, but what the hell. My hunch is that is was going to be a straight no, but that the level of campaigning has made him and his dept take a much closer look at the implications politically.

I'm thinking the same :(

ODPM dealt with almost 18,000 planning appeals last year .... expect the announcement from Keith Hill MP rather than from Prescott himself!

Don't forget, civil servants are a law into themselves. They will make the decisions when they feel like it, without any concern for the feelings of the relevant parties.

I was told that the civil servant dealing with the Falmer Inquiry was on maternity leave from November, and that no cover had been provided. However, when Hoile's report went in, we were told, directly from the ODPM, that the decision would be within two months, which would put it no later than the last week in March. The 'end of the season' worry doesn't hold any water for me.

I have also been told than Prescott is VERY aware of the feeling of the supporters up and down the country about the stadium. I understand it has been taken as read that he accepts the idea of it being in the national interest. But, obviously, I could be wrong.

All the arguments (site, importance, transport, economy, national policy strategies) are pointing towards a YES, but as has been stated many times, we will have to wait and see.

Most of the 18,000 planning appeals are dealt with by ODPM regional staff in places like Guildford. Only major applications get anywhere near London. And only mega applications get near Prescott himself.

But all decisions are issued in the name of the Deputy Prime Minister... "I am writing to inform you that the Deputy Prime Minister has decided ... "

Yep, I agree that is the protocol .... but if an announcement is deemed necessary it might be worth watching Keith Hill's diary. If its good news then he may well coincide it with a visit to the South Coast. If it's bad they will try and bury it with just a letter to the club! Probably posted to arrive on a bank holiday weekend or the like!

Maybe it's because he's fat overpaid and slow at his job?

Of course, if he says yes he is fat, paid his worth with an admirable attention to detail.

Tooting Gull is spot on. Have heard that both planning inspector reports go against us (ie No to Falmer). Prescott was due to say No last week. But the level of proFalmer publicity from all over the country has caused a delay. Originally this delay was planned to be for 2 further weeks to let proFalmer noise die down. But National Falmer Day on 6 March could force further delay of No announcement. Campaign HAS changed a 100% No decision on receipt of negative reports to current 80/20 against. But there has been a shift and there is a slight chance of a complete change to Yes IF the proFalmer campaign keeps going at its current level AND remains NATIONAL. Odds still against a Yes if only because the level of publicity will be difficult to sustain nationally after 6 March (media and football will get bored with it) and once it drops off we will be hit with a No. But if Falmer Day creates a lot of nationally based publicity we may just create the planning (political) impetus to force a Yes...Its still in the balance and everything depends on the next two weeks....
Btw I know I don't post on here...I'm a 'read only' member but I do trust the source which is close to the decision and I'm just trying to let people know how close it was/is to No but that there's still a chance if we keep things going...6 March is key and must make a nationwide impact.
Good luck to all of us.

I've read and re-read your post BWS... and I don't want to believe it.

Unfortunately it seems to add up with the 'facts' so far - I sincerely hope you are a wind-up!

I will carry on with letters, emails, money - whatever I can do - until MP and DK say otherwise. I just hope you are wrong!
