Why no minutes silence for Bobby Smith?

Wouldn't like to list those that we have had a minutes silence for who were less deserving. Suspect it would be long though.

I am really surprised about this. With no disrespect intended, there are several people who have been rightly afforded the honour of a minutes silence, but who were far less noteworthy in the history of The Albion.

I think a bollock may have been dropped here. ???

How many ex England internationals have played for Brighton. I doubt it's even a dozen. We should of had a minutes silence. The club know they are wrong, but won't admit it. Shame.

Still think he deserved a minutes silence though. Wouldn't like to list those that we have had a minutes silence for who were less deserving. Suspect it would be long though.

Seems to be a bit of apathy about this, I pressume an awful lot of us do not know about him or remember him.

Do I remember him having an apperance once at one of the events held at the Brighton Centre. If so its strange that he was important enough to the club in the past, but just a footnote at present.

Perhaps I will just join the silence at some part of tonights game for a minute in honour of a former Albion great.

There's a couple of small things you need to remember. Bobby Smith played for us for just over one season. I'm afraid he left under less than happy circumstances which may well have been the reason why he didn't get a minute's silence.

These points have aleady been mentioned along with the idea he was a real catalyst for loads of our life long fans to start watching the Albion. It sounds like the eqvilant would be if Defoe left Spurs and signed for us in this league, the family stand would be sold out every week. The profile he gave the club is the reason for this request, not that he was unfit or had gambling debts.

I think the lack of response even to this thread shows its more about time and distance from his playing days. Shame though, a minutes silence with almost a full house tonight may have made a few kids ask 'who he was' and added a few more visits to his Wiki page.

I wonder how many greats from my watching days will get the honour of a minute silence when we have been at Falmer for many years, and people have forgotton about their legacy.

There seemed to be a stage not so long ago where there was a minutes silence if somebodies cat got run over. Now it appears somebody who has always been touted as an Albion legend is only deserving of a programme note.

Maybe we have been silenced out.

This is absolutely it; 1964/65 was the first season I started going regularly to the Goldstone and I still can't believe how shoddily Bobby Smith's death was remembered last Saturday. There has never been a comparible signing since.

Well said.

I wonder what would happen if Leon Knight sadly departed this earth through unfortunate circumstances, a countrywide sigh of relief?

I think that's exactly it, we did seem to be having them every other week and where do you draw the line? I quite like the Southampton idea where they have a minute's silence on 'All Saints Day' to remember all the people connected with the club who carked it in the previous year; plus of course people can remember individual, but in a club sense 'not-important', loved ones.

Exactly, not a lot of sense. If they are trying to raise the bar they started with the wrong person in my view.
