Both are very well respected in their fields of expertise. We may not agree with everything they do but other clubs wouldn't turn their nose up at the chance to have them.

TB probably has very little interest in ensuring the toilets are clean, that the shop has a newly designed T-shirt, or that Sky TV would like an extra power feed for the next televised match. So yes, Paul Barber is an essential part of the club.

They are vital to keep the club moving forward in a way that is sustainable. If you don't understand football is a business and we need business people to run it successfully you need to educate yourself on the facts

Paul Barber is TB's man on the ground implementing the wishes of the board. TB does not want to be involved in the day to day running of the club. So is his position vital - Yes.

David Burke does all the legwork on the transfer front, leaving the Head Coach to get on with coaching the players we have. Is his position vital - not necessarily but I can see the merits in it, particularly as we have a Head Coach who has never dealt with transfers before. Is he a waste of money - dunno yet. There is an interesting comment on another thread about the club being burnt by loans before, so if he stops that happening, then I can see why the club have employed him.

There was a fairly good article in yesterday's programme about the scouting set-up - looks professional.

And Barber seems to do a pretty good job of making sure that everything "works", and of actually caring about what happens for the fans.

Because the thread is purely a fishing trip and seems to have caught a few. If it isn't, then it is just a dumb thread. You might as well say why do you need a manager/coach when it is the players on the pitch that actually play the game.

Be careful what you wish for - do away with Barber and Burke and we could very easily be on a knife edge in terms of being viable. It would be a crime to return to the bad old days. Its not that long ago when Dick Knight was Chairman and we were losing money at a ridiculous rate with no prospect of balancing the books, let alone building The Amex. Before that we had been staring into the abyss because of years of neglect at Board level. It is remarkable that we are still in business and Tony Bloom is largely responsible for that. He is shrewd enough to know that the Club now needs to be run on a secure business footing by experienced professionals who he can entrust his very large investment to.

Plus the football hasn't been too bad (well mostly) in that time.

I agree that most other Clubs would give their right arm for our managerial team. I'm not sure that we would fully appreciate the job they do until they leave.
