See any thread from the time, when the search engine is back online. Worst behaviour and aggression from any visiting supporters, at the station.

Contempt would be more accurate than anger.

Definitely bile, though, towards the tossers who come on here running down the club I love, making up negatives, and giving no credit for fine work that has been done giving this club a very bright future.

There were plenty out that night ,from both sides , who wanted mischief . It wasnt as one sided as you make out . What about the bottle throwing at withdean! just random stupidity . As for your bright future , why would i give you any credit for it:wink:

1st game of season 1974 Albion 1 Palace 0 , lots of extra trouble with holidaying London football hooligans coming to the game and boosting the aggro. Then grew and grew with many incidents over the next few years. End of story. Prior to that Palace were just another team to us. Now it is in the blood and will forever be.

Thanks for answering my question, it was worth getting mugged off by fellow fans on here to find out what really happened! Maybe Crawley will be the new rivalry in the near future!!

Yep Brighton's away support has a large element of a lethal mixture of a Tenants Super drinkers and organised hoolies when it goes to places like palace. Thornton Heath before the game we lost 5-0 a classic example. That is not to mention the infamous away days at Pompey, Brentford (what was it 60 plus banned for life after that game), Oxford, Orient, Chesterfield, QPR, Southend and well many many other places, including invading the Bournemouth end on TV.

If that happens I will stop going to football.

Bournemouth doesn't count for me because that was political.

I must be getting well old because these days to me, Tenants Super sounds like a town, and Thornton Heath like a beer.

Boasting about something as transcient as League Position is always an odd one. I am, however, strongly in the "despise Palace" camp. The reason? Their fans. As soon as any Palace fan finds out I am a Brighton fan the abuse it both boring an predictable as well as immature and quite graphic.

Added to that, there were an odd amount of Palace fans at my school and Brighton were awful between 1994 and 1999 (although the tail end of that was brilliant) and I vividly remember Palace fans taunting me throughout the Hereford game (we were on a school trip).

So I have different reasons for my dislike as I was born after the Mullery/Venables feud and I forget about it often. Its very easy to be reminded though when Palace are such a nasty and bitter little club.

See at school I would have just kicked their heads in, but I've grown up a bit now.

I very much hope not. That would be too sad.

Or any of the R soldiers from Catford?

Thing is it's one sided. We hate them because they were the 'local' club in the days of hooligans and the old third division. They couldn't care less about Brighton as they have closer London teams. The rivalry only merges when the play us.

Don't talk bollocks. We hate you all the bloody time. Some of the misguided hate Millwall and Charlton, but they are fools.

surprised that there were so many there.

Yeah although, I was possibly the only kid in my year who was openly a Brighton fan and to be frair it wasn't just palace fans that were knobs about it. Man United fans did little to enhance their reputation as being baffling unaware of why you would ever support a team that hadn't won something in the preceding 5 years.

Blackburn fans were springing up everywhere too... I think mostly it came from genuine confusion as to why I would ever support a team like Brighton.
