Lacked the passing ability of (say) Brady but a real committed player who worked box-to-box and rarely ventured towards goal. Good at finding space in the midfield to collect passes and link play.
I only saw him regularly from the start of the 1983/84 season when he was obviously playing against lesser players, but yes, I'd say he was in the Steve Sidwell mould. And topically he was No. 4 in the team that beat Charlton 7-0. I was in the 11,517 crowd that day and hadn't seen anything quite like it - just like last saturday in fact.
I would also go with him as he had an attacking flair about him but the ability to tackle and let the player now he was there and wasnt going to roll over or be pushed about.
