Who will be our main rivals for promotion next season?

So what do we all think? We now know (aside from play-off from League 2 and League 1) the make-up of our league next season. If we are truly going to be challenging at the right end of the table as we all hope then who will be our rivals?
Southampton
Sheffield Wednesday
The three play-off losers?

Anyone else?

Depends on their squads / if club is taken over etc. too early to tell really!

Notts County's team in league two would have competed for promotion in league one I believe with quality such as Schmeichel, Davies, Hughes..

Due to their finiancial problems though, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually gt much weaker (Schemeichel already left) rather than stengthen so should rule them out.

Southampton
Sheffield Wednesday
Millwall/Charlton/Swindon/Huddersfield (3/4)

Other than that I'm not sure.

I think Southampton will piss the league i'm afraid and everyone else will play for 2nd. If we don't go up it would still be in our best interests if Southampton go up cos they're clearly spending a bit (despite breaking the rules and being skint a yr ago or so) and it would get rid of them and increase our chances - a bit like Leeds this season...

No you are not. IMHO our only rivals will be Southampton; the rest we will be as good as and in most cases better than. I hope Charlton go up through the play offs this year. Peterborough could be a force if they have the money to back Gary Johnson who is a good manager at this level.

Obviously I agree with you. At the beginning of this season everyone was talking about the big 4 of Leeds, Norwich, Saints and Charlton, so it could only be us left of those 3.

I think Albion will have to wait until Falmer to be considered one of the real threats of this league.

And the year after that we can pray that a newly relegated QPR get promoted back to the Championship so they don't threaten our challenge, then a revitalised Sheffield Wednesday the season after that, then the following sesason a newly relegated Preston North....

At this moment in time, I don't think that we can even dream about promotion.
A team that has finished 13th in the league, is miles away from promotion material at this time.

Depends on who stays & leaves in the summer.

I don't think that we are anything better than mid table at this moment, even looking at our results in the second half of the season.

Swindon will go to shit next season. P'boro and Sheff Wednesday are no better than us and Plymouth are probably shitter.
Notts County have run out of money, so expect Hughes and Schmeichel to leave and them to go straight back down.
Rochdale will do well this season and finish in the top half..

As far as promotion goes, the only team I can see winning it is Southampton unfortunately. Obviously you may have Charlton, Huddersfield or Millwall, but they aren't all that amazing.
I can't see us going up next season though.. Rome wasn't built in a day and all that shit.

Why would we be gash? All our current team are contracted except paynter, we have new ties with man city liverpool and celtic for loan players and a board worth about 5 times more than tony bloom? Plus increased season ticket sales of near enough 6000 already and plans for the redevelpment of the county ground getting under way anyday soon.

Millwall will be up there again if they dont go up, Swindo wont be anything like as good if they lose their strikers, rest of the team is average, Huddersfield will likely spend big again and should be up there, not so sure about colchester, Wednesday should be as they'll attract bigger names than the likes of us. County have to sell and wont replace some of their stars. We wont be up there with the current team, we'll see who Poyet brings in. Charlton will also be up there

As always, you're the most pessimistic man on the board. That is your right however, get your facts right.

Last four months of the season we were in play-off form:

Month W/D/L Form
Feb 2/3/1 Ranked 7th
Mar 3/1/1 Ranked 5th
April 2/2/2 Ranked 13th
May 1/1/0 Ranked 6th

9 wins, 7 draws, 4 defeats extrapolated over the season is 82 points and with a goal difference of about +25, which would have put us in 5th.

Strangely Swindon are under-rated. Both times we played you, you were quite useful. Thought the game at Swindon was excellent - with both sides playing some good football. I think you must be in with a chance of going up in the play-offs. If you don't go up, you might not make the play offs next season, but you certainly ain't gash.
