Reading have been linked with Ipswich striker Alun Armstrong as manager Steve Coppell bids to improve his fire-power up front.

Coppell was in the stands as Armstrong scored twice for the Ipswich reserve team that beat Fulham reserves 6-1.

Armstrong hit the heights when he scored the winner for Ipswich against Inter Milan in the Uefa Cup two seasons ago.

But the 28-year-old is now out of favour at Portman Road and is available on a free transfer.

I have been saying it for months. He is a good div 1/2 striker, not going to get 20 goals in div 1, but would be a perfect foil for LK at our level. The problem will be that he is still on a Premiership contract, and would not be willing to take a drop.
