Either MK1 8 valve or MK2 8 or 16 valve ?

I had a MK2 8 valve,

The reason i chose this car was at the time it was the only in its class that had 5 doors, xr3i, 209, GTE were 3 door only (i don't like 3 door cars for safety reasons)

For the anoraks, i do know the GTE ws available as a 5 door 85-86 only !

Fantastic car it was, but as it turned out i never got to drive it much as a month after i got a company car so the wife used the most.???

I had a Mark 2 8 valve, quick, reliable but a little dull, chopped it in for an Alfa 155, different class

Yes, I had a 1991 MK2 16v 3dr in Oak Green, totally original, clocked up over 80K in just under two years, fantasic car, never needed any major work apart from a Clutch!

Traded it in for a Ur-Quattro (original), now thats another story!!

oooh, me me me!!

Mark II 1.8 8V, Black, the best one I had.
Mark III (1st) Dark Blue, on the day they were launched picked up a 1.8 8V and drove it to Scotland the next day for a 2 week holiday, great car to drive those roads.
Mark III (2nd) in horrid cheesy gold metallic with BBS multispoke alloys, got rid of that after only a few months.
Mark I 1.6, Red, a banger we had as a third car for a while so as the 911 didn't get driven every day by the missus.

Not had one since '95ish, the new ones look good, but I prefer my current A3 I think.

I had a 1989 Mk 2 Golf 16 valve, 3 door, in white. I LOVED it. Awesome driving machine, would cruise happily on the autoroute to Paris at 110/115, wind round narrow country lanes like a limpit... whatever you'd wanted, it would do for you.

Except iron a shirt..........

never owned one, but have driven loads, prefer a mk2 8v, with about 100k on the clock, they rev the best, with a 16v you have to keep up the revs to make it go any sense

That's a general characteristic behind 16V engines in general.

I never had one (too young) but am tempted to buy a MK3 VR6
