Ah, memories of those pre-internet days.!
I remember phoning it once from a phonebox in a small village in Crete, finding out that we'd beaten Norwich 2-0 then running round the village square yeliing "Seagulls" much to the bemusement of the villagers.

I heard there are some very dark rumours about him, but the person who told me refused to reveal more. At the risk of setting the former Sky Sports minority sports reporter up for all kind of slaggin, anyone shed any light on it?

8049..the number for Albion information, every day, 24 hours a day...and its bad news for the Albion!!!!!
How many bloody times did you phone that number when Albion were playing away in the old 3rd and 4th division to hear these words when we had let a goal in, in the last 5 minutes of a game!!!!!

And before that it was 0891 800 609. "You've already spent £1.35 listening to GOSBTS and there's another fiver going down the pan before I tell you anything worthwhile at all..."
I got challenged by the missus once for spending too much on it and she asked what it was. Smugly, with a "don't worry" expression I dialed the number and gave the phone to her to listen to it. Sods law of course I got the flaming number wrong. Her jaw dropped as she listened to a self-help health line for teenagers concerned about masturbation.

Tony Millard was sitting in front of me on the plane to Newcastle, he got very irate when all the NAC Breda fans started singing. We kept making comments about him being an old Queen to see if he responded.

Sorry but 8049 was way before 0891 800 609 ( a number so popular it had its own coffee mug)

Wonder if there's anybody out there who downloaded Tone for their Phone.

I remember Millard doing an immediate post-match report a few years aog on what was Southern Sound. He was live on air, and at the end of the report, instead of handing back to the studio he, "that's the Seagull Line on Brighton 80... er, and back to you in the Southern Sound studio."
Last season, Danny Cullip was being interviewed by Millard, after the Albion had won by a very mossy goal to nil against - I think - Nottingham Forest. Millard suggested that the goal was a bit fortunate. Cullip replied, "Well, we don't mind how they go in Tony... as you should know."

I heard the rumours back in the 80's.
Just hearing his name takes me back to the Goldstone, walking across Hove Park on a chill November afternoon with my bruv and Dad, hearing the strains of GOSBTS wafting over Old Shoreham Road, jumpers for goalposts..............marvellous, isn't it?
