No Doctor either. He was faffing about with some bicyclists in the pairoknees, or somewhere. ( Runs away before Stat Brother notices an unauthorised mention of cycling.)

Harley looked quite good actually. Good control, passing and composure on the ball, he had a couple of shooting opportunities but instead passed to Shorey, so I guess he's a bit low on confidence.

With the 4-3-3 formation employed today, it looks a bit more fluid than the GP system, with the two wide front men pushing right up, and a fair few nice long diagonal balls picking them out in advanced positions, where they tried to feed the out and out number nine. The oppo was limited to be fair, and against better we wouldn't get so many opportunities to put them in, but pressuring up against their back four was pleasing, as we seemed not to overly press in this area under GP. If Bridcutt stays and gets the CM berth, he will have to adjust from the spoiling role he had before, and be a bit more penetrative up the middle. A bit like the role Dicker used to play in League One, spraying it forward to pick out runners. We might know more come the Villarreal and Norwich games :)

Interesting thoughts on the differences. I was just struck just how absolutely identical the formation was to Gus's favoured one - the one deep lying defensive midfielder, the two midfielders more advanced in front of him, the two wide players and the lone striker.

Did Gus really not like his teams to press? I was always assumed that was why our more maverick talents like Vicente, LuaLua and even the lesser Harley hardly ever got picked, because they didnt retain their shape and discipline in a defensive pressing effort.

Anyway, does Garcia really need to reinvent the wheel with this squad? We won the most points of any Championship team in thr second half of the season, he should be mainly about replicating what Gus did well.

Of the DS lads in the first half, I thought March and Barry looked the most promising.

Richards is tidy enough too, in Bridcutt's position - not much pressure on him today though.

Big Rohan looks a laugh. Loves to step forward with it out of defence. He never quite looked like he really had it under control, but that might have had much to do with the bobbly pitch.

Maximenko was very average, especially once he moved to left back.

First half March looked the standout player.

2nd half Orlandi and El Abd just looked like they were from such a higher level than Whitehawk, absolute class.

Most of the second half. Didn't show much.

The tall coloured lad who played centre half in the first half was a ringer for Eric Young. Same touch as well at times! And who was the pony tailed CM who played the first half and then on again in the second. Looked decent.

If you mean the dreadlocked Dutchman, it was Nathan Ake, on trial from Chelsea.

Courtney Richards should be be the player from the DS to break through this season. JFC looked tidy enough and Brennan Dickinson always looks a powerful player cutting in from the left, usually has an end product as well.

Ulloa's lazy.

All the 'injured' players were there in the ground watching today EXCEPT Bridcutt.

Hoskins and CMS weren't there, so that's not true.
Very impresed with Ince. Richards didn't have a great game but think he will be quality with time in that difficult role. He likes a shot too.
March and Jake looked lively. Shorey looks every bit our next full back.
All the regulars (Orlandi especially) looked fine, Buckley and Ulloa didn't really get into it, but who cares.

Thought Max looked perfectly capable at centre back but nowhere near as assured when switched to the left.
Bradley Barry is definitely not a right back. No right foot and the winger ghosted past him a few times.
Dickenson very dangerous and should have scored at least once, against a tiring Hawk defence.
Dunky in midfield was funny. He looked "unsure" about it.
Enjoyed the game. My old man reckons we looked 'sharper' than at Worthing run-outs of days gone by.

Oh and Dean Cox was there, watching enviously from the sidelines.
