Is that the One Near the Devils Dyke?

used to be there, but seems to have vanished a while back. think it makes people think, but then again could distract drivers?

It's called a Ghost Bike, people put them there if their mates have been killed on a bike I think

No, the Devil's Dyke road isn't off the A23. As csider says that one's gone now, the Police took it away as they thought it was a distraction. There was a story in the Argus about it.

Nestling in green nowhere
Surely it would be more hard hitting to leave a skull in a cycle helmet impaled on a spike?

There were a few people in hi-vis vests standing around the bike when I went home last night. My mate is a fireman and he went to that incident, I wont post the details here as it was pretty gory by all accounts. I can't see why people would be stupid enough to want to cycle along the A23 in the first place though.

It is extra ordinarily beautiful & tempting. Any teenager would love to ride this bicycle. The beauty & the speed of this bicycle is unbeatable.

Same here.

I f***ing hate them. Its not up to me how other people grieve, but its f***ing creepy I think.

It's almost as creepy as those anti nuclear protesters from the 80's painting white outlines of human bodies on the pavement. I never figured out why they chose to paint them right outside my local Tescos though.

The bike was put there on Thursday to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of Marie Vesco (17.06.88 - 04.06.08). Her parents and brother came over from France.
There's a cycle path alongside it, isn't there?
Had there been adequate signage for cyclist then she and the group she was with would not have been on this road. This was highlighted by the coroner at the inquest (though the department of Transport do not seem to be in a hurry to improve signage as the coroner has insisted). There is no point in having cycle routes if they are not easy to find. Motorist traveling to Brighton from Crawley can navigate by following signposts; the same needs to be true for cyclists.
A driver intending to leave the road clipped Maries bicycle as she passed causing Marie to fall. The following car, driving too close behind, ran over her and she was killed. Neither driver was prosecuted.
The inquest heard that neither car was being driven in accordance with the Highway Code.
Its not up to me how other people grieve, but its f***ing creepy I think.
It's not just about grieving it's also to remind cyclist and drivers to be careful. It would be tragic if another cyclist was killed at the same place.
