You heard about..
Elvis's death
Lennon's death
and Jacko's death.

All three for me, the most shocking deaths i can remember other than Diana's.

I was at a Hastings caravan park when I heard about Elvis, late in the evening, on the radio. The DJ was in tears. August 1977?

I was working in Battersea and at my desk when a DJ announced the death of John Lennon at about 9am in the morning, again, close to tears. Dec 1980?

Jacko. I knew nothing of this until I logged into NSC and found out here! In my armchair!

Elvis was only 5 so cannot recall it at all
Lennon was mentioned to us at school. If I recall my 1st reaction was, Who?
Jackson trying to sleep but my brother-in-law texted the misses and she told me.

Most of those happened during the night so the first I heard about them was the early morning news - JFK's death, Lennon's death. Diana's death, Jacko's death - all while having my breakfast.

The exception was Elvis. I heard about that when it came on the news while I was having my haircut in John's of Church St (now Richard's).

Its been mentioned time and time again Elvis was not 5 when he died :lolol: (bet you edit now)

Elvis i was 7 years old, and i think we had been fishing that day/ early morning and my gran rang to tell my dad.

Lennon i was at school in sunny Wigan (thanks dad !)

Jackson i was playing championship manager and i got a text

I can't remember where I was for any of them.

As I didn't like any of them that much it didn't really etch anything into my mind.

I was more upset about hearing my favourite race horse having to be put down.

I remember where I was when that happened.

Was anyone actually either shocked or upset that Jackson died ?

I mean I know there has been wall-to-wall coverage - but was it as news any different than say, the weather forecast. Has anyone here actually felt emotional about it ?

(hence I have no interest in where I was when I heard Jackson had died. In fact - I was about to go to bed. I paused, thought "oh", and read my book.

Diana? I was in bed. Got woken up and told. Went back to bed. BOTHERED.

Jacko, sitting watching TV in my front room.

For me, the most memorable 'Where were you when?' moment was probably the attack on the twin towers. As far as as it happens, 24 hour journalism it was pretty groundbreaking watching the second plane hit LIVE on tele.
