Sadly it's not a new issue it's just gets more press now. The fact that thanks to the troubles in the old Yugoslavia has meant that there's more hand guns floating about doesn't help either.

The real problem is that many people see life as cheap and frankly most of the people who carry out these dreadful crimes aren't mature enough to realise how serious they are. Even if they get caught and get a 'Life Sentence' they actually get freed as relatively young people too, hence the punishment doesn't really fit the crime.

We need to engage the youngsters a lot more, give them something to do, a structure to their young lives, something to aim for and some overall hope for the future. I do a lot of charity work in London, especially in deprived areas. The level of alienation is frightening. On some of the estates I work kids really do not see any hope and have little to do. they jump at the chance to get involved in some of the projects I am involved in.

 see now i don't always agree with your opinions but that is spot on

also it doesn't help when some media "entice" the use of guns and other such weapons to make them look "cool" and "hard" :nono:

That rather depends on individuals though, some of 'The Yout' are too disenfranchised and cynical to be interested in good deeds. Not really their fault as they are victims of their environment. To get the trappings of a good living they turn to crime as the only way they can see to better themselves. Frankly that situation is not new at all and can be seen throughout history. The methods of reporting are just better now.

Very good stuff it needs someone to drive forward a Princes Trust type thing - perhaps something for either Wills or Harry ?

I agree with you. I worked as a qualified youth worker two evenings a week on one of the toughest council estates in West Yorkshire for 17 years. I coached a great volleyball team and we had over 100 youngsters coming in to the club.

The council closed it because they couldn't fund it any longer.

Stop giving them f***ing easter eggs for a start , thousands more children are dying from OBESITY but no one says anything about that
again could be sorted out with a decent cheap sporting option from the bigwigs , more indoor sporting facilities (a few indoor astroturf pitches wouldn't go amiss round here, given the weather)

even something like decent priced gym membership could sort out obesity.
