When should Christmas decorations go up ?

When I was growing up, my father finished work at noon on Christmas Eve. He then went to the pub, before bringing home a tree and a turkey. We then put the tree up.

Nowadays we tend to put the tree up ten days or so before Christmas, so this year on the weekend of the 15th/16th. Any earlier and we'd have needles everywhere.
