When in Bristol....I was amazed

Amazed at the amount of Chelsea tops being worn by young and old at the Bristol balloon festival. I was in the Bath area with the family for a holiday and popped along to Bristol for the festival fully expecting City tops galore but strangely...only the one top spotted. Maybe the Red population are keeping a low profile due to the uncanny start to the season? I spotted more Rovers tops but still cannot get my head round why the Chelski tops were in such abundance.

Might have just been one of those days. The Bristol bunch tend to be quite loyal to their teams.

Bizarrely, I was at the Fiesta on Sunday and don't recall seeing any football shirts at all.

I was there on Thursday - was packed, but I also can't recall seeing any football shirts!

I did however see the messages from supporters of City and Rovers on the big screen having a go at each other! Our teams better blah blah blah!!

Yep......Thursday evening too and totally packed. Everyone seemed to have a drink in their hand except me. The best part though was leaving about 8pm and whilst stuck in one of the horrendous traffic snarl up's I was beeped by a white van man. Could not figure as to what I had done wrong, I stuck my head out of the window. The other driver was a Gas head and noticing my Albion colours in the back window thanked us for keeping the City down!

I was there the week before and was amazed at the size of the place, makes Brighton look like a small village! How City/Rovers don't attract a bigger following is a source of constant wonder to Cheeky Monkey.

i'm in Bristol now and have just looked out of the window and can't see a single football shirt either - just 2 workmen and a granny.

I was working at the fiesta, anyone who visited the Post Office stand would have no doubt met me. I didn't notice any Albion shirts in the three days I was there, but saw a Palarse, Brizzle City and Rovers, but mostly it was Villa and Birmingham.

3rd largest city in the country isn't it?

Some teams have never achieved much in life, but you always wonder with the size of their home towns or their catchment areas just how big they could be if they ever became successful at the highest level.

Bristol City, Plymouth, Hull etc spring to mind. Even Carlisle if they could drag themselves up a few levels.

Then again Gillingham's chairman was talking about building them a 40,000 capacity stadium a couple of years back, so that just goes to show, you can have a huge catchment area, but if you're based in a grim, smelly old town where every house has a Ford Cortina on bricks and a rusting fridge in the front garden, coupled with a rubbish team, it doesn't matter how many people live within 20 miles. You still ain't gonna get those bums on seats.

Sorry, but you know as well as we do that the Gillingham and Medway Towns conurbation has the highest fridge-to-front-garden ratio in Western Europe

:lolol:

A scientific report last year confirmed it:

Fridges per garden by urban area ((c) 2004 University of Aberystwyth)

Medway Towns: 3.128
Kingston Upon Hull: 2.044
Liverpool & Wirral: 1.991
Wolverhampton & West Bromwich: 1.843
Leicester: 1.723
