When asked about the Gay Pride March thing...

I've always wondered just how angry the gay followers of other clubs feel when that homophobic anti-Brighton chanting starts up.

Being anti-gay remains the only almost universally acceptable prejudice alowed at football matches. Time to stamp it out.

I am not a prude at all, however I do understand the difference between decency and decedancy ( even if I cant spell it)

I also feel the same way about those bloody programmes on TV that promote drunkedness and nudity ( Club Reps/The Villa/etc etc) It gives the country a very bad name abroad and also, whilst we are at it, why is it mainly the English who behave like this? I don't see Scandinavians/Germans/Spanish etc etc shagging openly in the streets of Brighton, throwing up everywhere and behaving badly, but teh English do so in Ibiza/Falaraki/etc etc.

Why?

This could become a very moralistic thread

Outrageous costumes are the common currency of carnivals all over the world. Think Rio. Think Notting Hill.

Pride events echo this genre. San Francisco. Sydney. Manchester. Brighton.

We're up there with the best in the world.

Be proud, Dave. Would you rather see a Sunday School outing?

I think Dave would prefer it if they all marched in Burkhas (sp?). He's not against people having fun as long as they do it in a gaffer approved way.

Moderator Pethicks haircut was spotted at the march. Reports cannot confirm if he came out or not.

I now expect to be either banned or this post removed!!

Maybe I'm missing something here...but I've never really seen the point of this "Pride" lark. OK, you're gay, so what ? Why the need to have a huge march & carnival to announce it to the world ? Why do some homosexuals feel the need to broadcast their choice of sexuality to everyone ? I couldn't give a toss if someone is gay, hetro, bisexual, or whatever. I'm hetro, but I don't feel the need or the urge to go marching in the streets to make sure everyone knows about it, so why do gays ?

I'm not having a pop at gays here (although no doubt some people will interpret it that way), but its something I've never really understood the point of. There's plenty of things to have a carnival over, why bother just focussing it on the fact that you're gay ? Is it THAT big a deal ?

In theory it should n't be a big deal at all. However given that lesbians and gays still face discrimination, violence and prejudice for something which I agree should be of no interest to anyone else then I guess they do feel the need to demonstate solidarity and pride in themselves.

If anyone refused me a job, a service or a property for being straight or called me a hetro bastard when walking down the street then I think I might want to find a way to answer them back.

I know what you're saying Easy, I suppose it's because homosexuals are in a minority that has historically has been oppressed and shame is attached to being homosexual, which for centuries and beyond led gays to be ' in the closet' and so pride is basically saying 'f*** that' I was born like this and I'm gonna be proud, not ashamed or hiding away any more.

Is it really of any relevance to football at all? I don't see why anyone needs to be put into a category in the first place. People don't classify themselves as "gay football fan" or "black football fan".

We're all just football fans! Let people be and enjoy the game!

Yes but so do loads of people for loads of reasons/prejudices but they dont have pride marches.

I put this to the male posters here.

In legal terms you could impregnate a woman who could,

1. Refuse you accesss to knowlege of Paternity.

2. Put the child up for adoption

3 Said child could be adopted by Gays/lesbians.

4. There is NO Comprehensive data on success rates for same sex adoption.

would you be happy with that?

Most "gay" arguements are passive agresssive, poor gays getting beat up on. This ones different. YOU are potentially involved.

Well?

Yeah, probably right. I still can't help kind of rolling my eyes at the whole Pride thing and thinking "ok, you're gay, just get on with yer lives".

Who gives a f***? Gay Pride was a right laugh this year, its one of the things that makes Brighton an amazing place to live.

Get down there next time, have a drink and chill out with your mates while being amazed that the police are not taking your gear off you and be more amazed by the teeny weeny pants that most of the mle population are wearing.

:drink:

I'm sure theyre not interested in what I do !

perhaps if they didnt rub it in peoples faces there would be so much discrimination ??? its maybe gone a little bit too far ???

There's a lot of testosterone floating around on this thread, maybe we should all don some short shorts and meet up in the Bulldog in St James's Street in an hour.
