Inspired by the fact I've started drinking.....first heard this on a Whitbread advert.80's ? Whaddya mean you've never heard of Frank Crumit, well known in the Crumit family. Anyone who rhymes Lonely with balcony can't go wrong in my book.

"Melody" : Serge Gainsbourg

This track is the opening track on the album Histoire de Melody Nelson. It's got a great bass groove with a bit of a Herbie Flowers feel to it. The bass player Dave Richmond is actually from Brighton.

Always love that, typically avant garde and experimental from SG.

After I posted I discovered that Herbie Flowers played on the live performance of the album with Jarvis Cocker one of the guest vocalists.

Love Serge. Total reprobate.

A silly thing, a long time ago I found him annoying, only because I was jealous that he was with the so very pretty Jane Birkin :lolol:. Now I realise that he was such a talented artist. In France he’s still revered.

I love some of the French artists. Really lyrical. Charles Aznavour is a great songwriter too. When I was a kid he was just that balding old bloke taking up valuable Top of the Pops time singing that dirge She. It took me over forty years to appreciate what a great song it is which led me to discover his other work.

I edited my previous post and posted the live version of Melody featuring Flowers and Cocker
