Agreed Brighton would be number 1 town!

But as a city it cant compete with the big boys i.e manchester, newcastle.

My vote goes to Manchester. For the reasons shown below.

1) Cheap city living
2) Great shopping (city centre+trafford centre)
3) Amazing night out (including the best bar scene in uk)
4) Good transport links around city (metrolink and cheap taxis)
5) People are top
6) continued regeneration of city centre
7) low council tax rates

Accept not having a beach and the albion,Its got everything a person could need.

Didn't even bother reading the rest of the thread, I'm in complete agreement with you.

Manchester's a brilliant place. Style, nightlife, history, shopping, without the attitude and rediculous prices of London.

Castlefield is my favourite part of the city, not least for the superb bars on Albion Street. The Canal Street area (gay village) is also quality.

At last someone who agree's with me.

Did you live there too or something?

The best thing about it is the affordable city living,A stones throw away from castlefield with its quality bars,That link into deansgate,Which offers so so much.

My fav club in the world exists in manchester, lucid at the printworks.

Brighton needs a deansgate locks.

Live in Eastbourne but have been to Manchester a couple of times, most recently in May this year. Like you mention, the regeneration around the Deansgate Locks is superb. The whole canal area looks well smart now. Not to mention the Commonwealth village around the City of Manchester stadium.

f***, I want to go there. NOW.

Dont get me wrong Im from Brighton and proud to be,But I lived in manchester for a year and It just blew me away,T he nightlife up there can rival anywhere,But it puts brighton to shame on most counts.

Thats proberly why im moving back in the summer,Get myself a nice two bedroom apartment around castlefield me thinks,A snip at between £600-700 p/month!

Have you been down by bar 38 and teasers and squares, amzing bars in manchester and yes manc's are arrogant but it beats being ignorant like people in brighton.

Only driven through chester once (the walled city) looked very pretty.

But manchester is shitting on every city at moment, just hope it doesnt catch on too much+there is a price rise, before i get my posh apartment there!

Actually, if we're voting favourite cities in the whole of England then I would have to go with Chester. That place is just brilliant. As far as the 'where its all going on' theme goes though, Manchester pisses it.

Not only that but all the Hollyoaks Babes live there!!
:p :p

GRRRRRRR....

Can't really comment on many of these cities but the ones I have been to are shabby places I'm glad to leave, aside from Brighton of course.

Whenever I leave Brighton to come back up to Cambridge I do miss the sea and there is a great atmosphere about the city but I do find there are much nicer places than Brighton. Although it has got a lot better, I find Brighton a bit run down and there are plenty of idiots who roam the streets wearing Burberry and tons of Elizabeth Duke. It does lack a bit of class.

I spent New Year in Cardiff which I think is a great city, and would vote for that (I'm assuming UK cities are to be included not just England).
