The coveted number seven Saints shirt is again up for grabs after Andrei Kanchelskis this afternoon signed for Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.
The winger, signed on a free transfer at the start of the season, had a trial there last week and has just completed a move within the last hour.
His contract here has been cancelled by mutual consent enabling him to sign for the Middle East club on a four-month contract.
The Saudi transfer window does not close until 6pm tonight and the deal has been rushed through ahead of the deadline.
Kanchelskis made just two brief appearances as substitute after failing to recapture the form which made him such a star with Manchester United, Everton and Rangers.
He came here to train originally but did enough to earn himself a contract for the season although it was on minimal terms making him a cheap gamble which did not come off.
He was handed Matthew Le Tissier's prized Seven shirt but failed to do it justice. It will now remain vacant for the rest of the campaign as Premier League rules prohibit players swapping numbers mid-season.
Kanchelskis joins Imants Bleidelis, Kleber Chala, Neil Moss and Tahar El Khalej who have all had their contracts cancelled in recent weeks as Saints seek to trim the wage bill.
And Mark Draper could be the next one to go. the club are negotiating at a settlement of his contract which has 18 months to run.
The midfielder, signed by Glenn Hoddle for £1.25m, has struggled with a succession of injury problems over the past year and Gordon Strachan today confirmed the club are looking to reach a mutually acceptable settlement.

The scourge of dentists everywhere. You needed hands like a gorilla when biting because the filling used to stretch so much. Alternately you could tie one end round a lamp post then walk as far as you could in the opposite direction in order to soften it down and bite through it without losing half your teeth.

Texan's were a mighty fine bar - they lasted for weeks if you put them in the fridge although this probably does explain my high dentists bills now.
Honorable mention to the long lost Cabana bar - made by rowntrees was like a small, sweet bounty but with cherry mixed in with the coconut.
Finally, for those who talk about TAB Clear, the original TAB from many years ago was a diet coke drink that tasted of sacharin (this was before Nutra-Sweet had been invented), It was disgusting at the best of times and even worse when warm.
My Dad worked for Beechams who made it under license so had gallons of the stuff at home - that and Fresca, a grapefruit drink.
