Whatever happened to Teddy Boys?

OK, so you still see punks, skins, rockers, mods, goths, headbangers, hippys, slackers, fraggles, indiekids, skaters, metalheadz, etc. etc.

BUT! Where have all the Teddy Boys gone?

Dayglo socks and crepe sole brothel creepers. Drain pipe trousers, long edwardian style coat with suede trim, dress shirt and boot lace tie, knuckle duster rings and piled up quiff that would arouse the interest of any self respecting twitcher.

Time was that they would amuse us all with there jolly japes on the seafront and around fair grounds and amusement arcades. Waiting for the next Crazy Cavan or Thunderbirds gig.

So was there a cull?

I like Teddy Boys, they were funny.

Where the f*** have they all gone?

They became Psychobillies, and you should be very, very afraid.

But the old and fat ones go to Butlins for 50's weekends.

When I was in a band we attracted the occassional unwanted attentions of Teddy Boys and we used to call them "necks" because they all had particulalry long and prominent..........er .....necks.

Teds hated us.

We played R&B and Doowop and we had a black girl in the band.

Teds, being fundamentaly rascist - souths gonna rise again etc. - were not fans of the band.

We supported Jerry Lee at the Rainbow and a Ted got up and swung a punch at Griff, one of the singers.

Oh how we laughed.

Whren do the beatnicks go? (if theya are still alive)

Surely the teddy boys are all dead now, and they are just pretend ones at Shoreham Community Centre. Got ot be over 60 to be beatnick, Gawd knows old teddy boys are?

Might have been alive when the Shoreham gigs started about 25 years ago.
