Those examples are all plan A. They are a passing, possession style of play with slightly different nuances to them. They are not a completely different plan.

Exactly plan A tweeked to plan B, it's still a change of tactics. Slow patient build up down the field turned into a quick build up? I don't see that a plan B has to be route one.

Well I would not call it a plan B as the basic philosophy is the same. More of a plan A2 if you really want. It is not a completely different way of playing, however, like playing five at the back with wing backs or something and playing direct, which would be plan a B.

I see what you are saying and if you are going to go for plan B being totally different to plan A, a la Wimbledon or Stoke then no we couldn't do it, as we haven't got the players.
