I find my self in what can only be described as a frustrating problem.

I have recently had on numerous occasions when i have been talking to my customers when suddenly a competitor has walked in and just butted straight in to our conservation and pitched his products/company.

Now i have been brought up professionally in business and with manners and would never do this to another professional as it is actually an etiquette in the trade.

So far i have let it go and hope that the customer loses respect for the Rep/company, but what should i do next time NSC?

When you say a competitor walks in, do you have a shop then ? You could refuse him entry if you do have a shop. Are you a specialist shop/service sort of thing, you know when you see about 3 or 4 art shops or funeral parlours together. I find this slightly puzzling what do you sell, and how does this person know you have a customer, maybe you have got someone on the inside letting them know you have a potential customer. Oh i see you put the word etiquette at the end, which i had to look up,and now know you are not a builders, plumbers merchant or car dealership.....

I work for NPower (indirectly), going door to door. Yesterday EDF were in the same area as I was! So, I swiftly set about telling the girl the deal EDF are offering is f***ing SHIT in comparison with ours (£200 we give back, they give £50!).

Just so NSC knows, I did ask for her phone number after a session of flirting. She declined.

Sorry not made it clear enough i supply products to the Motor trade by the way of regular visits and other reps will walk though the door and butt in for which i can only assume is ignorance or desperation for sales.
I quite clearly show them my folder which i carry if my back is to them so they can see i am "doing business".

Pompey fan? I didn't know we'd been infultrated. Do you know his name? So I can spread the word at work, and get him sacked.

Pscyho.. brilliant. :p
It's not great, commission only. But when you do 4 in a day, like me today, and you make yourself £152, you don't mind it!

Be polite and ask them to wait their turn. It makes them look stupid and you professional and dignified in the eyes of the customer, whereas violence/shouting etc does quite the opposite.

Oh i see you are a rep so to speak, well we get reps coming into our showroom at the same time sometimes, but nothing like you have said has happened and if it did we would be just as shocked as you have been and it is rude......However i do not know your selling style or you as a person so can only guess. That you either are new to the area/or job and therefore maybe seen as weak by your rival, and he seems to be doing this delibaratly to you. If a rep did that in our shop we would think he was a twat and he would see no buisness off us and we would let his employers know as we do not want reps being bitchy in our showroom. In genral most shop/dealerships or whoever deals with them, hate most reps anyway. A good rep or salesman sells themself not the product then JOB DONE. SELL YOURSELF..........(dont let him wind you up,if he is like you say he will sell himself short)

I like to think i am not classed as a rep more of a friend /supplier so hopefully hate hasn't been used often as i walk away from customers!!

I have been in the business 8 years and we are well established and like to think that most of our customers would spot the twats but the main thing it does to me is cost us time and it has hardly happened until now in 8 years and over the past 4 months it has happened 6-7 times, i am a very tolerable but bad etiquette and rudeness does piss me off somewhat.

Do you work in a dealership then?

Was with a customer doing a service callout when a salesman from a competitor came along to drop by some demo bumf

Did the only honorable thing I could think of, which was repositioning my van so that he couldn't easily get out of the parking space he was in (beside mine). And went for lunch. :lolol:

I don't think he ever realised I'd moved it, just thought he'd parked badly as he asked me very nicely if I could move the van when I eventually returned some time later. Didn't want to risk hitting my van on CCTV or the wall with his BMW I guess!

It sounds like its just a sign of the times Mr Boots, Things are tuff out there and this geezer maybe getting it in the neck from his bosses about figures and this is how he operates. He / it wont last long quality will out.

Not a dealership No.
Im a Floorlayer/ estimator for a posh North london flooring firm. Reps are reps pretty much the same in any line of sales, some is good some is twats.

failing all the above just feckin lay into him in the dealership with a extra large feck off machete.....I would buy off you after that (providing you won)
