Didn't we once think Butters had that? And look what a good signing he's been.

I'd have thought that most players of Dodd's age would be desperate to squeeze a few more years out of their career. The criticism seems very unfair.

bugger me i forgot what an arse hat you really are. this isnt some bod whos got a crappy factory job and doesnt fancy going in anymore so tells his GP he's got a back ache. Dodd has had a long career in the Premiership and come to us to play first team. when your seeing a physio every week, its pretty hard to fake a back problem, they'd expect reaction to treatment and change that treament if it wasnt doing anything.

Sorry to go o/t DTG but who did you play for and what was your skill?

I played for Brighton and Hove( Sussex League), Kemp Town( Brighton League), Southwick( Championship) and finished up at Lewes St Micheals( East Sussex 2 and 3)

Bit of an all rounder ( ended up with 27 Hundreds all told - 1 against a Western Australia touring side- HS 177 Not Out against Ferring) Was fairly quick in my youth ( Sussex trails etc) Best 9 for 12 for Southwick 2's against Shoreham 2's

Ended up a Leg/Off spinner as shoulder is now crocked.

Tore ankle ligaments in August last year and still getting jip now

He's history isn't bad re injuries. Just been unlucky this year. When he came in at Plymouth towards the end of last season he really sured them up, a lot of their fans gave him a lot of credit for helping them stay up. Hopefully he'll be back next month and do the same here. He's got so much Premiership experience. Guy hasn't got the pace but he's done a fine job - Dodd can do the same.

...and you're an expert on injuries based on what. I'm offering up an opinion, I may be wrong. My guess is that Dodd, like Kitson, knew his career was up when he joined us and came he for one last year of getting paid to do pretty much nothing. If he had moved for career purposes he would have joined Plymouth over us.

Well that works both ways. He may have got a bit more at Plymouth, but the relocation etc would cause a lot of grief and as he knew that this would be his last season, there was no point in moving there then moving back the next year.

Spoke to the man himself at half time on Saturday *name-drops shamelessly*

He said that they have finally diagnosed the exact nature of the problem and is making really good progress.

Expects to be running full out in a week or so and available for selection soon after that.

He also said that he doesn't want to be rushed back, with the risk of breaking down again. He wants to 'get it properly right so I can do a job for the last months of the season'

Well, it seems quite reasonable. Would you want to go through all the upheaval of moving house and relocating your family just for the final year or two of your career, when you've got such long-standing roots in Hampshire ? It was a move that suited Dodd, and hopefully once fit we'll reap the benefit. You seem determined to write him off as a workshy skiver, but going on his career track record, nothing could be further from the truth.
