Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads
Life is timeless, days are long when you're young
You used to fall in love with everyone
Any guitar and any bass drum
Life is a drink and you get drunk when you're young
Life is new and there's things to be done
You can't wait to be grown up
Acceptance into the capital world
You pull on some weed, then you pull on someone when you're young

But you find out life isn't like that
It's so hard to comprehend
Why you set up your dreams to have them smashed in the end

But you don't mind you've got time on your side
And they're never gonna make you stand in line
You're just waiting for the right time

You're fearless and brave - you can't be stopped when you're young
You swear you're never ever gonna work for someone
No corporations for the new age sons
Tears of rage roll down your face
But still you say "it's fun"

And you find out life isn't like that
It's so hard to understand
Why the world is your oyster but your future's a clam

It's got you in its grip before your born
It's done with the use of a dice and a board
They let you think you're king but you're really a pawn

This was a question that was answered by the legendary rock icon, Arthur Brown, on Radio Four the other week. Bizarrely, he remembered one particular record from his childhood, which struck a chord with me, because my folks owned it and played it regularly, as a seven inch, 78rpm disc.

If you go down in the woods today you're sure of a big surprise
If you go down in the woods today you'd better go in disguise
For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain
Because today's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic

God, I'm old.

Met Arthur Brown in the street in Lewes a few years back. God he looks old. Mind you when he did his "Fire" number in Brighton about 10 years ago at a Max Miller fundraising concert, he looked 40 years younger.

Don Partridge did a spot too, miss the old geezer busking in Broad Street Seaford. Must be four years now since he died in Peacehaven. God bless Don.

He flits from shop to shop just like a butterfly.
In matters of the cloth he is as fickle as can be,
Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion.

Whats that line when he mentions "big L?" Never understood the following words.

For the young "Big L" was "Wonderful - Radio -Londonnnn"..blame them for bringing Tony Blackburn into show biz.

Do you remember The Flashing Blade, a foriegn swashbuckler, i loved it

As a 7 year-old my ambition was to become a Musketeer, and the Flashing Blade on a Saturday morning was my VERY favourite show.

You have the wrong song I think?

They seek him here, they seek him there,
His clothes are loud, but never square.
It will make or break him so he's got to buy the best,
Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion.

And when he does his little rounds,
Round the boutiques of london town,
Eagerly pursuing all the latest fads and trends,
Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion.

Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is).
He thinks he is a flower to be looked at,
And when he pulls his frilly nylon panties right up tight,
He feels a dedicated follower of fashion.

Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is).
There's one thing that he loves and that is flattery.
One week he's in polka-dots, the next week he is in stripes.
Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion.

They seek him here, they seek him there,
In regent street and leicester square.
Everywhere the carnabetian army marches on,
Each one an dedicated follower of fashion.

Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is).
His world is built round discoteques and parties.
This pleasure-seeking individual always looks his best
Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion.

Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is).
He flits from shop to shop just like a butterfly.
In matters of the cloth he is as fickle as can be,

Hes a dedicated follower of fashion.
Hes a dedicated follower of fashion

Mine was "Robin Hood", still remember all the original TV characters. A lot of them on the TV show were Yanks. Friar Tuck had a very strange accent for a medieval type. I think it was filmed in the States.

Quite right, He's as Big L as can be ( I think) although it may be something other than Big L that he says?

Lots of nostalgia for the old 'uns in this video and the line is right at the end.

Love the listening booths in the record store, happy memories

"You got to fight for what you want,
For all that you believe.
It's right to fight for what we want,
to live the way we please.

As long as we have done our best,
then no-one can do more,
and life and love and happiness
are well worth fighting for.

And we should never count the cost,
or worry that we'll fall.
It's better to have fought and lost
than not have fought at all.
Let's always take whatever comes
and never try to hide.
Face anything and anyone"

Remember it well! Wasn't it about a war between France and Spain? It was a Spanish production iirc. Also wasn't it part of some Saturday magazine show, something like 'Zokko'? (Based on a pinball game). Could well be wrong on all those counts so don't shoot me down.

.... and talking of Saturday shows, this dates me .....

"Tra la la, la la la la! Tra la la, la la la la!"

Just played in on "Youtube" after all these years (and having to shell out £1 for another lousy set of library headphones).

After all these (nearly 50) years I have misheard it all that time; he says "Fick-el as can be" and I always thought it was "Big L"...:facepalm::facepalm:

They asked me how I knew
My true love was true
I of course replied
Something here inside
Cannot be denied

They, said some day you'll find
All who love are blind
When you heart's on fire
You must realize
Smoke gets in your eyes.

The Platters ..... A lifetime ago.

I always think that the lyrics to "and then I kissed her are wonderfully naïve and very obviously from a bygone age. Still love it, though, especially by The Beach boys.

Well I walked up to her and I asked her if she wanted to dance
She looked awful nice and so I hoped she might take a chance

When we danced I held her tight
Then I walked her home that night
And all the stars were shining bright
And then I kissed her

Each time I saw her I couldnt wait to see her again
I wanted to let her know that I was more than a friend

I didn't know just what to do
And so I whispered I love you
And she said that she loved me too
And then I kissed her

I kissed her in a way that I'd never kissed a girl before
I kissed her in a way that I hope she liked for evermore

I knew that she was mine so I gave her all the love that I had
Then one day shell take me home to meet her mom and her dad

Then I asked her to be my bride
And always be right by my side
I felt so happy that I almost cried
And then I kissed her

And then I kissed her
And then I kissed her

:moo:It seems so long ago,
Nancy was alone,
looking ate the Late Late show
through a semi-precious stone.
In the House of Honesty
her father was on trial,
in the House of Mystery
there was no one at all,
there was no one at all.
It seems so long ago,
none of us were strong;
Nancy wore green stockings
and she slept with everyone.
She never said she'd wait for us
although she was alone,
I think she fell in love for us
in nineteen sixty one,
in nineteen sixty one.:moo:
