Hughton stated in an Argus interview that he needed to replace the 5 loanees we lost at the end of the season, and 3 that didn't have their contracts renewed = 8 new players.

However, Rea has moved up to the full squad, so now 7 required.

We have signed 3 ( Hughton talked about the keeper signing to replace Walton as a like-for-like positional replacement ) of these 7, meaning 4 more required.

For me, these 4 are :

1 Striker
1 Winger
1 Central At Midfielder ( Tex II )
1 Central Defender.

There is a big case for selling Chicksen to free up another squad place for another winger, as the squad is too defensively balanced with the addition of Rea in defence/defensive midfield, and both Bong and Rosenior can play left back.

IF COG is sold, add another striker.

( I assume Colunga is going, whether sold or loaned ).

Rosenoir has not replaced anyone though has he? So not sure you can include him in the 8 you mentioned.

someone flair, that is exciting to watch and gets you out of your seat with anticipation every time they are on the ball. Then I might start to look forward to next season as apposed to "is it only a few weeks away before it all starts again" feeling I have now.

That is in no way meant as a criticism of the players we have already signed.

Creative players are needed urgently as although our strikers were goal shy last season, the service they received was non existent. If we don't sign at least a winger and a creative midfield player before the first game, I can see our non scoring run from last season continuing.

I presume we have ambitions to make the play offs. So to my mind we need to win around half of our games and double the number of goals scored last season. That's around another 40 goals..........

Currently I cannot see where those goals are coming from. Therefore a 'proper' striker and truly attacking midfielder would seem to be priorities. Possibly a winger too, if March and KLL do not show any form.

It really concerns me that we lack the pace and creativity to make us less predictable and give us more of a goal threat. Assuming we can also rediscover how to convert chances created. Tick those boxes and we will be a heck of a lot more exciting to watch too.

While it is good to speculate about potential signings I still remain somewhat concerned that Hughton does not have the attacking instincts to get us those goals - in reality I fear it will be about grinding out 1-0 wins - but I very much hope he will prove me wrong.

I feel that my Albion mojo-ometer has risen from a misfiring 'meh' and is now fluttering somewhere between a smooth tickover and very mild optimism.

Combined with the recent signings this should be a positive step forward. The right mix of experience, quality - and with the new foreigners providing a bit of the 'unknown' to make us less predictable. Ought to be the sort of squad to compete among the top third Clubs.

I'm still not convinced that BZ is on Hughton's shopping list and have concerns that he would be too big a hit on our budget - but the feelgood factor would be priceless. If we could get 25 games from BZ on decent form in the Championship then it could make all the difference. Would put a few more bums on seats and shift a fair amount of merchandise, so no doubt appeals to the Boardroom. I wonder if there is a risk of BZ being parachuted into the squad over Hughton's wishes?

Currently I am just hoping that we still have a couple of quality signings in the pipeline and are quietly doing our business below the radar, so we do not get gazumped.

Second striker. Everyone is agreed.

But do you want

1) hard working one in style of Ashley Barnes that could help in defence
2) or a "creative" one with a low centre of gravity in the Zaha mould
3) mixture of the two (and not special at either)
4) Peter Ward type who is exclusively a goal scorer

Youngster or an ageing journeyman?

Attacking midfielder to replace Lingard/Teixeira mould

1) fierce competitor in Jimmy Case category as a player (never loses possession)
2) hard running box-to-box type
3) a more subtle player with some nous to find the final pass (often unappreciated)
4) set piece specialist

Winger:

1) genuine speed merchant with technique (like Buckley, Adomah) to win with sheer pace
2) average speed winger (most of them) who can bang in the crosses without finesse (the idea is lots of crosses and one will get converted)
3) another midfielder who can defend and does not get injured

We need two quality wingers who can actually control the ball and run with the ball aswell as crossing and scoring:)
Currently we don't have anything of quality on the wings.

Looks like we're targeting whoever comes cheap rather than positions. We have two good right backs, let's get another one!!! Priorities
