On another thread there is bickering going on about people only attending away matches and thus not contributing to Brighton's finances etc.

This I find very sad indeed.

I think the whole question about whether people 'support' the albion or 'follow' them is a crap one. If when someone asks you who do you support you answer 'brigton' then as far as Im concerned you dont ever have to justify yourself to anyone with regards to how many games you attend and how much you spend in the club shop.

Being a Brighton fan should make you part of a special collective of people who have been united through some very hard times. Just because someone went to more games does not mean they care more, just because someone has spent more in the shop or shouted louder at games does not mean the club mean more to them then the next person.

We are all Brighton fans. End of.

Yes. You are more use to the club if you give them lots of your money.

Perhaps I worded it wrongly. I can see how people who spend money at games, in the shop etc are more use to the club..but this does not make the BETTER fans. It makes them fans with more money to spend.

I dont think it's a question of being a better fan if you spend more-but the fact is that without our ticket money etc. the club would die. It's no good having even 1 million" followers" if only 5000 people pay to attend home games.

If there is one thing that annoys me about football fans it is the 'im a better fan then you' attitude, exemplified by the leader of our very own supporters club.

What do you resent about the leader of the supporters club ?

I don't think they have ever made out they are a better fan

get your point RM but what about the Sussex people who answer "Man United" to the question. I can't help but follow it up by asking when was the last time they saw them live? But who am I to judge anyway?

Why do you persist in saying something isn't worth arguing about, and then ask the question? Why also do you put "end of". and then post again 5 minutes later?

Poor fans are of no use to the club. Poor fans don't pay the rent. I'm sure the club publically appreciates their good will, but if they can't even afford one of the new shirts, then they shouldn't even be allowed to go to home matches. After all, they could be taking up the seat of a rich lardy who would also buy a programme and loads of chips.

I suspect you might be referring to the "vice" leader of our very own SC. Maybe a real fan knows who it is? People support the club (or team) in different ways. Some just on NSC for very good reasons (I'm sure!).

When it boils down to it, they do "it" through thick and thin.

Ok, here is an example:

Myself and others, Yorkie included, had arranged to meet up deliver the Valentines Card to John Prescott in the East Hull Labour Offices. Although some of my directions were shit (i got them off routemap and thus am putting the blame on them) I had gone to some trouble to help organise it. I also wrote a story about it which appeared on page 3 of the Hull Dailly Mail and spent all week making sure the Hull Dailly Mail would attend and cover the event.

The supporters club was late getting their, through no fault of their own they were stuck in traffic. I got the press to stay as long as they could but eventually they had to go. They had some good pics and another story was put in the Hull Dailly Mail so mission accomplished.

THEN the supporters coach turned up and off piled Liz Costa. She waltzed over, barging people people out of the way..people lets not forget who had driven from the south coast to Hull off their own backs to be there, proclaiming 'its ok, we are here now, you can get going'. I the explained that the press had had to leave to which she got in a mood. She literally knocked my girlfriend over barging past in a mood and some random guy from the supporters club started lecturing me on how it must 'be easy to be a Hull City fan' despite the fact I was talking to him in a southern accent and was stood with my girlfriend in her Brighton shirt. His parting jibe? 'You should try being a Brighton fan mate...not everyone gets a new ground because prescotts one of their fans'.

I emailed Liz Costa and told her all about this and how it has annoyed me somewhat. Her response? She wished me 'all the luck in the coming season and hopefully shed see us (I can only presume she meant Hull City) down at the Withdean in a few seasons.

This is not mentioning the fact that those of us who had been there the whole time were then pushed to one side so the supporters club could be in the pics.

Nope, did not bother me as much as that perhaps suggests. Just annoyed me at the time how ignorant some people can be and this conversation brought it all flooding back.
