What is going on at the Dome Cinema in Worthing?

I've heard all sorts of rumours about the staff walking out, the Charity Commission investigating the finances of the place and mismanagement of the complex. Anybody know what is going on? Will it affect the refurbishment due to take place later this year with lots of lottery money?

Blimey, is the old flea pit still up and running ??

We used to go there as teenagers (in the good old days!!) - but pretty much as a last resort. Such a pity when the Odeon closed and they built 'Laura Ashley' on the site :(

What a place ! The smell from the gas heating, the creaking seats and floorboards, the constant rumours of rats and assorted bugs. It's amazing it is still in existence.

Prime site though. Probably be sold for swanky sea front housing.

Not sure Worthing needs two out of date cinemas - the Connaught's bad enough. Still showing dodgy no smoking in this cinema ads and every time someone opens the door to go to the loo the whole auditorium gets bathed in light!

 How can you say that? The Dome is a piece of heritage - there aren't many others like it. I was hoping that if Worthing got a decent cinema (now a distant dream), the Dome could be tarted up and used as an arthouse cinema. There is definitely a niche for it there (just like the Duke of Yorks)

Memories ... saw some brilliant films there including the Wicker Man and Don't Look Now.
They also had an Emerson Lake and Palmer evening and a Strawbs evening way back when ......

There was something in the Worthing Herald last week about staff walking out and handing out leaflets to cinema goers and the manager coming out and having a paddy.

Sadly the Worthing Herald is a bit like its paper version (not very good :nono: ) and story isn't there.

Yeah and we just happen to live in Worthing and the Dome cinema is one of the oldest cinemas in the country!

Actually, this is a forum for fans of Brighton & Hove Albion FC. Believe it or not some Brighton & Hove Albion fans live in Worthing, some live in Guildford and other places...., we even have some kilted brethren in Scotland!!! The Dome theatre is clearly of interest to our Worthing brothers so I don't see any reason why they shouldn't discuss it here.

The Dome in Worthing recently underwent a fairly comprehensive refurb, which has removed most of the musty smell, and either put in new seats, or recovered the old ones. Also, there's a nice bar which allows you to take booze into the cinema (a pint of red stripe goes down very nicely with a movie).

I went to the Connaught at the weekend (Harry Potter), and I can see what you mean about the lights in the toilet; very off putting.

I don't know (not being a smoker)_but I'd be very surprised, with all that wood and fabric about, it might constitute something of a fire risk !

The last time I went there was to see the Dustin Hoffman film ``Outbreak,`` I contracted a nasty skin disease but when I complained the manager said it was all part of a new sensorama thing they were experimenting with.
